Ka Ule o Nanahoa
As the legend goes, the male fertility god, Nanahoa, and his wife, Kawahuna, lived on this hill. One day a young beautiful girl was staring at her reflection in a pond. She saw Nanahoa admiring her and smiled back at his reflection. Kawahuna, in a fit of jealousy, grabbed the young girl by the hair. This angered Nanahoa, who sent his wife tumbling down the hill where she turned to stone. Nanahoa also turned to stone but his fertility power remains in this impressive rock.
It is said that if a woman make an offering and spends the night here, she will become pregnant.
Fertility rocks such as this one are found on all the Hawaiian islands, but this is said to be the finest example. The rock's present form is a natural configuration, which has been carved to some extent.
