This cache has been archived.

GlobalRat: Sadly the reason for placing the cache is no longer valid and the little garden is in a serious state of disrepair.

Geocache Description:

"   Ja Ja   Rasta   Farah   and   Rooi   Boss   Park   Made   by   Prince   (Rasta)   "

DO NOT attempt when someone is relaxing in the small "park".

Look out for the Nike swoosh, and the electrified fence "pot". If you take a few moments you may spot some other interesting features.

*** Please note that the security guards are extremely vigilant. As you drive to the parking area, take note of where they are (you will probably pass them). The cache is easy to recover. However the guards may come and inspect what you are doing if you take too long, so have a story ready. If they do approach you before you have managed to do the cache, kindly leave it and return some other time. They tend to keep a careful eye on you until you have left, and you may inadvertently jeopardise the cache.

The cache can be found where steel meets concrete, shoulder height. Your best cover is either to deliver a plant and/or make as if you are taking photo's.

In 1997 this road was closed to ease the traffic at a five way intersection. Soil started banking up against the pavement, washed down by rain, and blocked the gutter and the drain. Encouraged by his employer, Prince Baloyi took over the small patch of untidy land and transformed the dump into a little garden. His first task was to clear the land of rubbish and weeds, and then he cleared the drains. Taking plants from his employers garden, and those donated from residents in the suburb the transformation began. He collected rocks from the nearby golf course and starting picking up discarded items such as the wheelbarrow and tyre to use in the garden. He purchased the paint out of his own money. The handiwork on the traffic islands is also his.

The park is used as a pitstop by many on their way somewhere, and is also a gathering place for old friends. So, it may be somewhat busy over lunch, tea, and late afternoons. You may or may not run into Prince.

As is the whim of nature, it is best viewed in spring and summer. Bring own pen.

If you have some spare plants, bring them along and leave on the table, I'm sure Prince will put them to good use.

When the cache was originally placed in 2007, I spotted Prince building a wall to protect a bed along the main road. Since then they have have erected some pallisade fencing which has unfortunately damaged the garden. I have eventually decided to publish the cache, as I'm sure Prince will be working to revive this landmark, which has been around for over 10 years, back to its former glory. I did however move the cache so that cachers will be less visible from the street and vendors. Also decided to make the placement an easy one instead of it's original devious placement.
