Madera Canyon Underlook Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

shakyjim: It tears me up, but I am no longer physically capable of maintaining this cache in this great spot. I'm archiving and hoping some one else will put a new cache in this lovely area, critters be damned. Thanks to RMRR for the heads-up.

Geocache Description:

Located near where the North Mystery trail crosses Madera Canyon.

The N Mystery trail passes by Lagunita Seca (GC46C3), although the far Northern end is not yet completed. The trail runs N-S along the Eastern edge of Lagunita Seca; start South and the trail will soon bend downhill to the East. The trail is very well marked with diamond shaped blazes and is easy to follow. The lower end of the trail ends near the Doc Long picnic area. I suggest you read Mike Coltrins book, "Sandia Mountain Hiking Guide" for details, and see GC46C3. The cache (decon container) is located at the top of the stump my daughter is touching in the photo. This is about 150 feet W of the trail/stream junction and 70 feet from trail. There is another cache further East on this same trail, placed the same day. If you take one FTF prize, please leave the other FTF prize for someone else.
I suggest parking at N35 13.534 W106 24.561 (Palomas Cliffs Parking) if starting at the upper end, or at N35 10.876 W106 22.620 (N Mystery Tr Parking) if starting from below. I left a car at the bottom and drove on to the top. Total walking distance from pkg to pkg is 6.02 miles.
