Historical Note: At the nearby dam was an old mill (Dover Mills) which American Forces under command of LCol (LEWtenant-Colonel)Campbell raided and burned along with the rest of the village on 14 May 1814. He was later court marshalled and found guilty of burning civilain properties. This attack was the last straw for the British who retailiated by conducting a series of raids down the American east coast reaching down to Washington D.C. They burned several government buildings among them the residence of the president of that republic. Because the government wanted to give the appearance of rapid recovery from the damage they hastily white washed the building and it has been called "The Whitehouse" ever since.
