This cache requires more than just a visit to the top of the dunes. You *must* answer questions about your visit as outlined in the cache description. Failure to do so will lead to your find being deleted.
Jockey’s Ridge is the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States. Here at the state park you can experience the world of the desert. Shifting sands, high winds, extreme temperatures, and a lack of water make the park resemble barren environments such as the Sahara Desert. You can also explore the estuarine environment along the Roanoke Sound which is a rich habitat for a variety of plant and animal life.
This park is a great place for hang gliding (they even have a hang gliding school on site!), flying a kite, or even throwing a boomerang. Be careful and protect yourself because this is very similar to a desert and the sand can get mighty hot!
The tallest sand dune is nearly four-stories tall and provides a very scenic view of the area. This sand dune system isn’t subject to erosion, unlike other sand dunes in this area, due to an interesting phenomenon.
Your mission is to determine what this phenomenon is (you’ll have to go inside to the exhibit hall).
You must also provide coordinates to the tallest part of the system, determine the distance between your coordinates and the last person logging a find, and give the two bodies of water that contain the system to the east and west.
Optional:Please take a picture of you and your GPS somewhere on the sand and post it. You may also post pictures of the views from way up there.
Please do not provide answers to the questions in your post (except for your coordinates), but rather e-mail them to me. Don't forget to post your coordinates from the top!
There have been reports of cachers going into the office to ask for the answers to the questions. This is not acceptable. Please go through the carefully created exhibits to get your answer. If you have problems finding your answer e-mail me. This isn't to say that the Rangers cannot help you with the answers but you shouldn't just ask. Thanks!

To those with physical disabilities I quote the following from the park website:
“A trip to the top of the dune, once thought impossible for those with physical disabilities, can now be achieved with the help of all-terrain vehicles. Park staff will drive people who need assistance over the sand to the exciting views at the top of the dune. Rides on the all-terrain vehicles must be reserved ahead of time. Contact the park office for reservations.”
