This cache is located on top of St. Mary's Glacier above Idaho Springs. It sits at 11800 feet in elevation. Very difficult compared to the other caches I have seen so far.
This cache is located in a white paint bucket. The seeker must hike up to the top of St. Mary's Glacier. Where the snow ends, it is still a bit of a hike up. If trying the glacier, I would recommend snowshoes for traction. It can be very cold and windy, so go prepared. We (my girlfriend Laura, my buddy Mark and my dog Grizzly) took an alternate route that puts on some good mileage. Start at the old St. Mary's Glacier ski area parking lot N: 39 49.504 W: 105 38.679 and head striaght up the old ski slopes (snowshoes required in the winter). Follow the valley all the way to the top of the divide N: 39 50.192 W: 105 39.629. From the top, go straight to the cache. Then from the cache go down the glacier. It is a great sledding experience at the bottom. The lake is great fun to play on if it is frozen over. The lake is at N: 39 50.055 W: 105 38.485. From the lake, follow the real trail back down to the trailhead N: 39 49.621 W: 105 38.610.
The cache contains binoculars, gum, log book, pencils, disposable camera, movie (French Kiss), chapstick and pine cones.
