Amazingly, this little yellow bucket has been hidden and challenging cachers for 17 years now!! WOW!
It seems to get DNF's in batches where people assume the cache isn't there. It's VERY likely to still be there, so don't let DNF's sway your thinking. As has been mentioned by others, and you'll agree when you find it, there is almost no chance of it being muggled.
Finding this cache requires simply following the path (however, the path may be difficult to find, the first 4 words of the hint should hopefully help a little); please only stick to the paths; absolutely no bush bashing is required.
Cache is a 1 litre see-through container with bright yellow lid.
The terrain rating may be a little high, the track between Grotto's Motto and Harbor the Entrance is fairly steep in sections, the track to the resort is quite tame. There is a crevasse near GZ and some cliffs are nearby (you don't need to go near the cliffs) so children should be careful. Cache is well hidden (please hide it as you found it so it won't be easily seen), so you may need to budget on a little time searching, satellite coverage should be excellent. Finding the coordinates was done with averaging, however Google Maps is showing the location as being a few metres to the SSE of the actual location.
This cache/the "resort" is the huts in a place known as Crater Cove. The huts are heritage listed and the volunteers obviously do a lot of work keeping the area in perfect condition (if you see garbage help them out by carrying it out) so the cache has been placed a short distance from the actual "resort".
History: Hut 1 was built in 1923 by Bob Cadwell, George Mennis and Fritz Pederson, who used it as a weekender. It was built of driftwood, wrecked boats etc. Hut 2 was built in 1932 by Fred Williams and also used as a weekender. Artistic people like Dick Ashton and James Jackson and other intellectuals used to visit the huts for parties. Later Fred Williams moved there on a permanent basis until his death at Crater Cove in 1940. He helped found the Honorary Rangers League, the Manly Swimming Club, the Rugby Union Federal Football Club and the South Steyne Surf Lifesavers club. Hut 3 was built by Cec Pearse in 1935. Hut 4 by stonemason Len Hunter in 1942. Hut 5 by Len Hunter in 1948. Hut 6 by the Taylors in 1949, then rebuilt by Rex and Inga Ward after it burnt down in a bushfire in 1953. Hut 7 in 1950 by Mack. In the pre-war period the Huts were used only as weekenders (except by Fred Williams) and were never anything like Depression period shanties. In the post war period more permanent occupants gradually moved in. The names of about 100 long term occupants are known since 1960. In about 1988 the National Parks and Wildlife Service evicted the occupants and the huts are now vacant pending a decision on their future. (February 1990) You can read more about the huts here.
