Based on a tip by Rich…[ H. Wolves ] about why not converting my letterbox up here into a hybrid Geo-Box…? And, as no one else has “glommed” this most scenic spot and the previous Geocache at this location, Zoar Overlook, has been retired, thus, why not lead new folks up to this great view point ? Bring camera.
Note: Its best not to camp at this campground..as the rangers here are very unfriendly to geo-cachers !!!! See and read logs for geo jamboree 8 GC233TD for detailed comments on this subject. This is a non typical [ early Zurcher ? ] cache…therefor non-complicated, easy straight forward easy to do cache- letterbox combo. The hardest part may be the climb up here, but well worth it. Make sure to obtain a trails map at kiosk on way in, or, as a minimum, study trails map posted there and / or download one. Stay on marked trails all the way up to the top, as, bushwacking here not advisable! If lazy or new at this or no GPS….use / find info for Kettletown LBNA # 7970 letterbox listed under New Haven county and follow those instructions. Or press here to download: http://www.letterboxing.org/BoxView.php?boxnum=7970&boxname=Kettletown Also, less experienced cachers may wish to have a copy handy for reference or hint to find cache-box, a medium sized Tupperware container. While up here, be sure not to miss other overlook close by, [ check map ] even a bit better as less obstructed view, less trees....backtrack on trail a bit and take trail towards the north-west. this cache is a bit hard to get at...and the view in summer mostly now overgrown... but ok/nice in winter...best way to do /get to this cache is NOT to use gps and go straight up the hill..lots of fallen trees and trail no longer maintained..best to get on blue trail and turn RIGHT and follow blue trail in counter clockwise direction...study the map...its a bit of a hike but a lot easier. Misc. history about this cache-box The original letterbox was placed in march 02 above Prydden Falls on other side of the river, seldom visited became orphaned and later adopted by myself and transferred to this site. Original letterbox name was: Mistaken Identity….as , original owner not aware, Kettletown is on THIS side of the river. Examine neat rubberstamp.
