O monumento / The monument
A construção da Igreja de Santa Maria da Graça de Santarém teve
início no ano de 1380. Porém, dificuldades económicas, entre outros
motivos, levaram a que a obra só ficasse concluída já no século XV.
As marcas da construção arrastada no tempo estão ainda hoje
visíveis no monumento, uma mistura de gótico mendicante e gótico
flamejante. É neste último estilo que se insere a rosácea, um dos
mais bonitos detalhes do monumento, esculpido a partir de uma só
pedra.
The construction of the Santa Maria da Graça Church began in
1380. However, financial problems, amongst other difficulties,
delayed the construction and the church wasn't complete until the
15th century. You can still notice that the construction went
through different architectural periods turning the monument into a
mix of mendicant and flamboyant gothic styles. The rose window is
an example of the latter and one of the most beautiful details of
the monument, carved from one single stone.
A capela de São João Evangelista guarda o túmulo em campa rasa
de Pedro Álvares Cabral, o navegador que em 1500 descobriu o
Brasil, um dos principais motivos de atracção deste monumento.
In the Saint John the Evangelist Chapel, inside the church,
you can find one of the main attractions of the church - the
tombstone of Pedro Álvares Cabral, the navigator that discovered
Brasil in 1500.
A entrada na igreja é gratuita. As visitas podem ser feitas de
quarta a domingo, entre as 9h00 e as 12h30 e entre as 14h00 e as
17h30. A igreja encerra às segundas, terças e feriados.
Entrance is free. You can visit the church between wednesdays
and sundays, from 9am to 12:30 and from 2pm to 5:30pm. It closes on
mondays, tuesdays and public holidays.
A Cache / The Cache
A cache é um recipiente dos rolos fotográficos preto e está
escondida por baixo de umas pedras. Sejam muito discretos e
cuidados uma vez que, durante grande parte do dia, o local está
cheio de muggles. Muggles estudantes da escola do ISLA de Santarém,
localizada mesmo em frente, no Lar de Santo António).
The cache is a black film canister and it's hidden under some
rocks. Please be discrete and careful. During most of the day, the
place has lots of muggles around. Student muggles from ISLA -
Santarém, located right in front of the cache, in Lar de Santo
António.
