PLEASE READ - This is a Travel Bug (TB) Hotel. We hold these two values in tension:
Travel Bugs/Geocoins (GC) should travel. If you can help a TB or GC achieve its specific mission. Take it. If possible, look at the mission of the items beforehand, in case they are not labeled.
A TB Hotel should have TBs. Out-of-town visitors dropping off 3 TBs expect to be able to pick up 3 in return.

The goal/guideline (but not a rule): To have a minimum of three and a maximum of six TB/GC at all times. For items without a specific goal: If it was dropped off locally, move it out of state; if it came from out of state, move it locally. Think of the good of the TB owner and the good of the next cacher that may want to swap TBs and do what you think is best. Basically, practice the Golden Rule. End of rant.

CACHE NOTE - The log is double bagged, which is necessary to keep out moisture. Please place only the Log Book and attached pen in the inner bag and place those in the outer bag. Please carefully reseal the bags. As a precaution, BYOP (bring your own pen/pencil). Mine keep wandering off.

Welcome to the Arts District of downtown Dallas.  This building, First United Methodist Church, has been part of the Dallas landscape since the 1920s.  The historical marker traces the congregation, not the building, back to 1846.  History link.  For performing arts information, see the Rotunda Theater Series schedule.

While you are here, check out:
The Dallas Museum of Art across the street (with multiple free concert series in June)
The Trammell & Margaret Crow collection of Asian Art (FREE!) caddy corner.  Virtual tour link
The Nasher Sculpture Center a half block away.

On the hour, you may hear the bells of the carillon of the Cathedral Santuario de Guadalupe, completed in 2005, two blocks to the east.  Just north of it is the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center.  Recently completed is the new Performing Arts Center (which includes an opera house); follow the link for information.  Just east of the center is the massive expansion of the Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.  The high school has many famous alumni, including Norah Jones and Erykah Badu.  The area is buzzing with construction.

About the cache.  To my knowledge, this is the only TB Hotel in downtown Dallas - and we have many, many visitors each week for conventions and meetings.  I'm guessing that some of them are geocachers.  This cache is probably best hunted after 6 pm during the week; fewer muggles, free street parking.  Probably best to just use the clues and leave the GPS in the car!

The cache has been placed with the knowledge and cooperation of the facility manager and crew. Please be respectful of the grounds.

Transportation  & Parking Logistics:

Although not part of the Blue Line Train Series of caches, this site is a two block walk from the St. Paul Station, and is accessible from the Red, Green and Blue DART lines.  CLICK HERE to visit the DART site for a DART rail system map (PDF).

Please note that effective 1/1/2010, parking meters are in effect SEVEN DAYS A WEEK until 6 pm.  (25 cents for 12 minutes from Ross south.)  Street parking is scarce at lunchtime on weekdays (try Harwood next to the DMA, which is also cheaper).  Harwood and part of Ross are also closed on Thursday evenings in June for the Jazz Concert series at the DMA and for other special June concert events.  Check the DMA website for the schedule.  St. Paul Street remains open.  Many streets are one way.

MugglesRelax.  Many people walk by during the day, most are either from out of town and looking at the buildings or on their way to an appointment.  It gets quiet after 6 pm (when the street parking is free!).  Infrequently, a homeless man may wander by.  I haven't met any that were dangerous.  The DPD choir practices here on Tuesday evenings, but they enter on the other side of the building.  If the police ask what you are doing, tell the truth.  IT IS OK TO BE HERE.  If a muggle asks, tell them you are checking the termite traps.

Wheelchair Access:  With apologies, the cache container is not quite wheelchair accessible.  To log a find, send me an e-mail with the stage one clue information, the answer, and the name on the cache container.  Do not post answers in the log. Owner will be happy to log your find in the cache log book. Owner rates cache: H11132
