Only a Lad Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

DudleyGrunt: Went out to confirm it was really gone and that "you know who" wasn't too lazy to actually retrieve it. YEP! It's gone. Now that it's confirmed to have gone missing a third time, I am reluctantly archiving my first hide.

Thanks to all who braved the last 100 feet or so to find this cache. My uncle (ROOKIE49) will never let me live down trying to kill him with this one. At least, it'll be one of his most memorable cache hunts for a long time to come!

Finally, a parting dedication to "you know who" from this cache's namesake song...
Its not his fault that he cant behave
Society made him go astray
Perhaps if were nice he'll go away
Perhaps he'll go away
He'll go away

Only a lad
He really couldn't help it
Only a lad
He didn't want to do it
Only a lad
He's underprivileged and abused
Perhaps a little bit confused

Hey there Johnny you really don't fool me
You get away with murder
And you think its funny
You don't give a damn if we live or if we die
Hey there Johnny boy
I hope you fry!
Actually, I know I need to pray for the poor soul that feels the need to misbehave and try to ruin all our fun, but it's at least cathartic to send out this dedication.

Geocache Description:

Cache is an ammo can located within about 60 feet of the trail, but is near the top of a steep and slippery hill. Round trip hike of about 1.6 miles. Good boots and possibly a hiking stick for the last bit are pretty much a must.

Please be careful and know your limits. Even if you've made the hike out there, don't attempt the final approach unless you feel comfortable doing so.

As posted at the trail head, only attempt during daylight hours.

This is my first hide. Originally, I wanted to do this by the time I found 100, then by the end of 2006, then by the time I found 200. As I neared my first anniversary of caching, I decided it was finally time to "get-r-done".

When I was "only a lad" in middle school, I lived nearby and spent a fair amount of time around the Middle & Little Patuxent Rivers. Saw there was a lack on caches over here, so thought I'd rectify that. I hope you enjoy the walk.

A wide, well maintained trail will take you to within about 500 feet of the cache. After that, you'll need to make your way over some fallen trees and back onto a smaller, but still well marked trail until it is time to climb. The end of the level trail and the route up to GZ may be slippery when wet, so use extreme caution.

Depending on your GPSr, signal may go in and out a bit along the way.

[Original contents: A bunch of stuff that won't be here before long. However, if you must know, there is a 3x5 Gadsden flag, a set of 4 Beatles cards (no idea when made or value, this might be a GREAT FTF prize), some small US flags, a couple of bookmarks, and some other misc. stuff.]

Park near the trail head for the "Savage Mill Trail" on Foundry Street near the Bollman Bridge (6am-8pm). If you look at the location on the the maps, it might appear that you can park along Weathered Stone Way. However, since that street is part of a gated community, it is not an option.

This is my first hide, please feel free to offer your thoughts and input.

Congratulations to TurtleMommy on being FTF!

This cache is part of my Oingo Boingo series. The band was a favorite of mine in college. "Only a Lad" is title track of their 1981 debut album. It was also one of four tracks on their 1980 demo EP.

Only a Lad
by Danny Elfman

Johnny was bad, even as a child everybody could tell
Everyone said if you don't get straight
You'll surely go to h__

But Johnny didn't care
He was an outlaw by the time that he was
Ten years old
He didn't wanna do what he was told
Just a prankster, juvenile gangster

Dedicated to the "juvenile gangsters" that ransacked the cache in August '07 and again in March '08.
