Vila Adentro [Faro] Multi-cache

Faro é a capital do distrito com o mesmo nome e corresponde à região mais a sul de Portugal continental: o Algarve. O perímetro urbano desta localidade teve a sua origem na II idade do Ferro, embora os vestígios mais antigos remontem ao paleolítico.
No interior das muralhas de origem árabe, com as alterações que se seguiram à reconquista cristã, situa-se a Vila Adentro. Está feito o convite para um passeio pelas ruas e ruelas da cidade velha, outrora Santa Maria de Harune (Árabe) e, antes, Ossónoba (visigodos). 

As coordenadas correspondem ao local de início do percurso. É possível estacionar a viatura por perto. 

Para chegar à cache, é necessário recolher alguma informação ao longo do caminho...aqui vai:

Entrar pelo Arco da Porta Nova (junto às coordenadas iniciais) e contar as argolas de metal na parede do lado direito (D).

Faro foi elevada a cidade em 1540. A Sé de Faro foi construída entre 1251 e 1271. 

Passe por lá e registe a data que se encontra inscrita numa pedra na parede, junto à escadaria lateral (GHBG) (em que B=F+G).

D. Francisco Gomes de Avelar foi Bispo do Algarve. Procure a estátua em sua homenagem e anote a data dessa homenagem (GEAI) 

Dirija-se, depois, ao Paço Episcopal, mesmo ao lado, e conte o número de degraus de pedra C (C=H+F), assim como o número da porta que o encima (GH).
(número da porta = degraus x 2 + 1)

Seguindo pela esquerda (de frente para a escadaria e porta do Paço), existe um pequeno arco que dá acesso à Rua Monsenhor Boto. Chegando ao fim desta, desça até ao Arco da Vila.

Sob o arco, conte o número de letras do último nome do arquitecto responsável pela obra (H), o ano da inauguração (GJGF) e o da recuperação (GEEF).

Sugerimos que saia da Vila Adentro e veja o arco do lado de fora. Pode ainda percorrer o jardim e visitar a Igreja da Misericórdia e ver a fachada do Banco de Portugal (1929).

Agora suba, procure os Paços do Concelho e siga pelas traseiras da Sé de Faro, até à estátua de D. Afonso III. Aqui, registe a data esculpida no canto inferior esquerdo, junto à base (GEDD).

Se tiver tempo, aconselhamos vivamente uma visita ao Museu Municipal de Faro, instalado no Convento de Nossa Senhora da Assunção, junto à estátua de D. Afonso III. Também pode descer até ao Arco do Repouso e sair da Vila Adentro (existe um portal, à direita, um pouco antes do arco, que dá acesso a um restaurante, que permite percorrer as muralhas, mas está muitas vezes fechado).

Para obter as coordenadas finais, faça a correspondência dos números obtidos anteriormente com as letras:

Atenção: a cache está num buraco na muralha, tapada por uma pedra. Não é necessário, por isso, retirar pedras que estejam fixas. Não destrua o património histórico que é de todos… e tenha muito cuidado, é um local bastante movimentado e cheio de muggles. A cache já desapareceu duas vezes!
Agradecemos, ainda, que verifiquem se a cache ficou "invisível" à distância, quando a voltarem a esconder.
Saindo pelo Arco do Repouso e contornando a muralha pela direita, chegará ao Revelim e o Castelo de Faro (também chamado Fábrica da Cerveja, pois albergou uma fábrica da Cervejaria Portugália). Aqui, pode entrar novamente na Vila Adentro, seguindo até ao Largo da Sé, passando pelas Galerias Municipais de Arte Trem e Arco.
Em alternativa, pode seguir em frente, contornando o Revelim por fora, seguindo por fora das muralhas. Embora por aqui, alguma “arte urbana” desaponte a paisagem construída, mas permite uma vista fantástica da Ria Formosa. Se continuar pelas muralhas, volta ao ponto de partida.

Faro is the capital of Faro district, which corresponds to the social-geographic region of the Algarve, at the south end of continental Portugal.
The urban perimeter of Faro is as old as the 2nd Iron Age, although there are vestiges as old as the Palaeolithic. Within stone walls, originally Arab, with subsequent modifications after the Christian re-conquest, is the old village (Vila Adentro) of Faro. Here’s an invitation to a quiet stroll on the streets and alleys of this old town, once upon a time called Santa Maria de (Saint Mary of) Harune (Arab) and, earlier, Ossónoba (Visigoths).

The given coordinates are the starting point of the cache quest. You can park nearby.
To find the cache you have to collect some information along the path.

Go through the Porta Nova (New Door) Arch and count the round metal rings on the right wall (D).
Faro was elevated to city (Portuguese city) in 1540. Faro’s Cathedral (or "Sé") was built from 1251 to 1271. Aproach it and note the date written on the stone on the wall, near the lateral staircase (GHBG) (where B=F+G).
D. Francisco Gomes de Avelar was one of the Algarve’s Bishops, search for he’s statue. Remember the date of this homage (GEAI).
Go to the Episcopal house, in front, and count the stone steps C (C=H+F) and the number above the door (GH) (small tip: number = stone steps x 2 + 1).

At the left end of the Episcopal house, there’s a small arch, leading to Monsenhor Boto Street. Pass under the arc, and go down until the Vila Arch. Count the letters on the last name (H) of the main architect of the Arch project, as well as the Arch’s construction year (GJGF) and reconstruction year (GEEF).

We strongly sugest a small walk out of the old village, so you can see the Arch façade just ahead the Misericórdia (Mercy) Church and the Banco de Portugal (Bank of Portugal) 1929 building.

Then go back under the arch and proceed to Faro’s City Hall and then to the Cathedral’s back street. Stop at the King D. Afonso III statue. Remember the date (GEDD) carved in the lower left corner, just at the base.

If you can spare some time we suggest a visit to Faro’s Municipal Museum, installed in the Nossa Senhora da Assunção Convent, just behind the statue. Go down to the Repouso (Rest) Arch and out of the old village (there’s a portal, before the Arch at your right, with a large restaurant, if it’s open, you can go up and walk around above the stone wall).

To obtain the final coordinates, replace the letters with corresponding numbers:

Please note: the cache is hidden in a hole in the wall, covered by a stone. It’s not necessary to remove stones that are attached in the wall.
Don’t destroy the historic patrimony... and be aware, there can be many muggles in the proximities: This cache has been vandalized two times!
We appreciate if you confirm if the cache is “invisible” from a certain distance when you hide it again.
We suggest you go around the stone walls clockwise. You can see the Faro Castle and go through the Vila Adentro. You’ll pass two Municipal Art Galleries: Trem and Arco.
Alternatively you can continue around the Castle. There’s some “street art”, but there’s a great view of Ria Formosa. If you continue, you’ll go back to the starting point.
