La Salette
Cette
statue de la Vierge dressée sur un vestige d’observatoire
plus ancien, avait été supprimée de l’église lors de travaux
exécutés en 1940. La mise en état de la plate forme et
l’édification de la statue ont été exécutés en février et
mars 1945. Cet acte de dévotion avait pour but de demander à la
Vierge de protéger la paroisse et de permettre aux prisonniers et
déportés en Allemagne de rentrer au pays sains et saufs.
Historique :
Le 19 septembre 1846, à environ trois heures de l'après-midi en
plein soleil, sur une montagne proche du village de La Salette-Fallavaux, deux enfants, une bergère de
quinze ans appelée Mélanie Calvat, et
un jeune berger de onze ans appelé Maximin Giraud, tous les deux
très ignorants, virent dans une lumière resplendissante une
« belle dame » vêtue d’un costume étrange. Parlant
alternativement français et patois, elle les chargea d'un message
qu'ils devaient « faire connaître à tout son peuple ».
Après s’être plainte de l'impiété des chrétiens et les avoir
menacés de châtiments épouvantables s’ils devaient persévérer
dans le mal, elle leur promit la clémence divine s'ils
s'amendaient.
La
Salette
This statue of the Virgin Mary, standing on a
relic from an older observatory, was taken out of the church during
building work in 1940.
The renovation of the plinth and the erection of the statue were
carried out during February and March of 1945.
The purpose of this act of devotion was to ask the
Virgin Mary to protect the parish and to bring home safely those
deported and imprisoned in Germany.
The History: On 19th September 1846, at
approximately three in the afternoon in bright sunlight, on a
mountain near the village of La Salette-Fallavaux, two children, a fifteen year old
shepherdess called Mélanie Calvat, and an eleven year old shepherd called
Maximin Giraud, both uneducated, saw a ‘beautiful
woman’ surrounded by resplendent light and dressed in strange
clothes. She spoke to
them in French and Patois and asked them to deliver a message to
‘all her people’. After bemoaning the impiety of
Christians, and having threatened them with dreadful punishment if
they persisted in this behaviour, she promised them divine clemency
if they changed their ways
