Geocache Description:

Are you a Greyhound?

a.k.a. The Hemlock High-Speed Hike
What are Greyhounds known for? Racing...

This "Big Dog" 5 stage multi-cache is only for the fastest, hardest hiking Big Dogs around. If you prefer driving up to your caches and enjoy muggles gawking at you lifting light pole covers, then this is definitely is not for you.

As all good races should, this race begins with a warm-up: a 1.5 mile hike to Stage 1. Then it's time to dig in. To compete for the top slot on the Greyhound list each cacher must record their total time to complete the cache beginning at Stage 1 and ending at the final. Log your name and the current time in the log book at each stage. When you are finished post your time in your electronic log entry and I'll post the results on the cache listing. You may compete more than once, but you will have to re-log each stage.

You do NOT have to compete for time to log this cache.

In keeping with the theme of the original there are no puzzles or games here, just straightforward grit, determination and also hussle. Each cache has coordinates to the next and the posted coordinates will lead you to Stage 1. Please take the time to rehide each stage as well as you found it. Due to the amount of deadfall in the area, I upped the difficulty rating. But, I've placed each stage in a typical hiding location that shouldn't require much searching time from the seasoned cacher. This cache is not as long as "Big Dogs... Mastiff", but I left the Terrain rating up because if you compete for time, you'll probably be just as tired when you finish.

Park at one of the suggested parking spots, depending on whether the gate is locked. I recommend reviewing and downloading the trail maps of some of the park that I've posted at this Wikiloc link. Select "Actions" and then "Download" to get the .gpx file of the trails. If you want to compete for time, you'll want to do as little bushwacking as possible.

This cache will take you on roughly an 8 mile loop around the park. Expect to gain around 1000-1200 ft of elevation along the way.

Remember, Your starting time begins when you find Stage 1 and stops when you find the Final. There are notes at the cache to remind you.

So, Are you a Greyhound? Prove it!!
