Geocache Description:

A nice hike along the Rhode Island / Connecticut State Line past the Dinosaur Caves to a traditional cache on a sunny outcrop.

This hike/cache is in Rhode Island...just barely. While hiking the area, we kept wondering which State we were in. When we tried to think of a name for this cache, Mama Hobbit decided we should name it after one of our favorite shows. Hence, "Who's Line is it Anyway", was born.

We found this area in the 3rd Edition of Ken Weber's "Walks and Rambles in Rhode Island". For a more detailed description of the terrain, please refer to Chapter 11, The Narrangansett Trail.

To start, take Route 138 West of the Hopkinton village of Rockville to Yawgoog Camp Road. Follow the road until you reach the camp entrance. Do not enter the camp; instead turn right and follow the dirt road 1.2 miles to the parking area (see Waypoint). Along the way, be sure to bag the Woodbadge cache (GCAB7C) which you will pass along the way.

The parking area is across the road from a State boundary marker. The kids will have a fun time being in 2 states at the same time here. The trail starts immediately to the left of the parking area and is blazed in Blue and Yellow

Follow the path over increasingly rolling terrain for roughly 4/10ths of a mile. You will notice a large rock outcrop with the trail blazes leading you up over it. You can choose to go over or under the outcrop, which both meet up on the other side. This rocky outcrop is home to the Famous Dinosaur Caves. From the top the cave entrance is small, too small for an adult. You will almost walk right over it as you hike. You should notice a small rope tied to a tree hanging into the cave. From below, the entrance is larger but still tight. Please use extreme caution around these caves. Kids could easily get stuck

Immediately after the rocky area, the trail heads slightly away from the CT State line. Then, half a mile from the parking area, you will come to an abrupt fork in the path. You should turn right, head downhill through a swampy area, then up to the cache area. You will come to a large flat rock outcropping that would be an excellent spot for a picnic in warm weather. This outcrop is considered the Southern terminus of the Tippecansett Trail, which ultimately heads North to the Arcadia Management Area and Beach Pond.

The total hike to the cache is 6/10ths of a mile. The cache is the standard ammo can with a non-standard camo-tape design. To find your car simply backtrack the way you came. Remember to bear left at the fork on the way back or you are in for a long walk in Connecticut!

We left a pin for the FTF and ask that you please post pictures of your hike...just watch out for the Dinosaurs!

CONGRATULATIONS TO YBLee for being the First to Find!
