A walk of between 1.5 to 2.5 hours, climbing 500 feet, mostly on paths, but a short section pathless through woods. The woods are accessible to all despite signs that claim you are on private property. Do not go into anyone's gardens, however!!
Un promenade environs 1.5 ou 2.5 heures, montant 150 metres, la plupart est sur sentiers,mais il y a une petite section sans chemin. Ce n’est pas convient aux enfants ou personnes qui n’ont pas assuré à pied ou qui souffrit vertige.

Park for free in Les Eyzies near the river and head up to the main street. Turn left and make for Chemin de la Nanette (N 44° 56.310’ E 001° 00.673’). Go up this road, which becomes a track, veering left under a cliff before descending a little and then curving right and climbing up the right hand side of a wooded valley.
After gaining height for 12 to 15 minutes the path hits another at a T junction (N 44° 56.426’ E 001° 00.983’). Turn right and continue along a less steep path, keeping right where it forks, to arrive at an important waypoint***N 44° 56.364’ E 001° 01.059’***.
Here you leave the path and turn right into the woods, following walls and possibly the odd faint track S and SW to a vital waypoint *** N 44° 56.202’ E 001° 00.936’ ***
ENTER BOTH THESE INTO YOUR GPS! THE FIRST IS IMPORTANT BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO GET BACK TO THIS POINT (and it is easy to get lost in the trackless woods ,especially when the trees are in leaf) AND THE SECOND IS THE ONLY PLACE I KNOW WHERE YOU CAN SAFELY REACH THE CLIFF TERRACES.
You should now see a small track to the right descending some steep rocks which leads eventually to the exposed cliff edge at N 44° 56.188’ E 001° 00.896’, where you look down on the roof of the Museé de la Préhistoire. Head right to some ancient steps cut into the rock at N 44° 56.193’ E 001° 00.885’. Do not descend these but continue right to a belvedere at N 44° 56.188’ E 001° 00.802’ from which you can look down on a ‘Salon de Thé and the Vézère flowing south.
Ascend right to N 44° 56.194’ E 001° 00.806’ and turn left. You should now be looking towards a narrow ledge below an overhanging cliff which curves to the right (see gallery photos). Go round this to another viewpoint, this time looking down to La Place de la Marie or NW to the bridges spanning the Vézère valley (around 45 minutes from when you started).
You are almost there!! Go under a large bounder which is held in place with wire hawsers, then across sloping ground via a faint path and turn right to an over-arching cliff that curves left. The cache is there, under these magnificent cliffs which in turn overhang a drop of between 50 – 70 metres.**DANGER DO NOT GO NEAR THE UNFENCED CLIFF EDGE. You can go no farther and descent is not advised because if you fall you will land in the middle of the main road 200 feet below! Finding the cache should be straightforward as there are only 2 or 3 piles of rocks. It is a small plastic box (10 x 6 x 3 cm) containing a 1 euro piece (for the first to find) and a key (to life?)
Having found the cache, retrace your steps back to the T junction of paths. For a slightly different way back, keep straight on to hit the GR 36 and follow the red and white flashes to descend to the Hotel Cro Magnon where you can get a well-deserved celebratory drink.
As far as I am aware I am the first Englishman to find this spot and, although I’m a novice at this game, I do not think there can be many caches like this one!
PLEASE NOTE: It is not advisable to take the ancient prehistoric steps down as these will lead you into the National Prehistory Museum and you will get kicked out for not having bought a ticket!

Regardez S.V.P, parce que les falaises surplombant, les releves du GPS sont mauvais et les coordonnées au-dessous sont moins de 13 metres seulement!
Le parking ‘A La Vezere” est gratuit. Ensuite montez a la rue principale et tournez a gauche pour le Chemin de la Nanette (N 44° 56.310’ E 001° 00.673’)
Montez la rue, qui devient un chemin, virant a gauche sous une falaise avant descendant un peu et puis tournant a droite et montant le flanc droit d’une vallée boisée. Apres prenant de l’altitude pour 12 – 15 minutes il y a une junction ‘T’ des chemins. (N 44° 56.426’ E 001° 00.983’). Tournez a droite le long du chemin moins raide, continuant a droite ou ce bifurque et vous arriverez à des coordonnées tres importantes***N 44° 56.364’ E 001° 01.059’***.
Ici vous quittez le chemin et tournez droit et entrez les bois, siuvant des murs et, peut-etre de temps en temps un sentier vague sud et sud ouest pour arriver à des autres coordonnées d’importance capitale. *** N 44° 56.202’ E 001° 00.936’ *** JE VOUS CONSEILLE ENREGISTRER LES DEUX DANS VOTRE G.P.S! LA PREMIERE EST IMPORTANTE PARCEQUE VOUS AVEZ BESOIN DE REVENIR A CETTE PLACE (et c’est facile pour vous devenez perdu dans les bois sans sentiers, particulierement quand des arbres sont en feuilles) ET LA DEUXIEME EST LA SEULE PLACE JE CONNAIS OU VOUS ACCÉDEZ LES TERRACES SUR LES FALAISES SANS DANGER.
Maintenant vous devriez voir un petit sentier a droite qui descende des roches raides. Celui-ci conduit eventuellement a la lisière de la foret et les failaises surplombantes à N 44° 56.188’ E 001° 00.896’, ou vous pouvez regarder en bas le toit de la Museé de la Préhistoire.
Vous vous dirigez vers un escalier ancient taille dans la roche à N 44° 56.193’ E 001° 00.885’. Ne les descendez pas mais continuez droite vers une belvedere à N 44° 56.188’ E 001° 00.802’ ou vous pouvez regarder en bas un ‘Salon de Thé et La Vézère courant sud.
Puis monte droite à N 44° 56.194’ E 001° 00.806’ et tournez a gauche. Maintenant vous devez regardant vers une saillie étroite au-dessous une paroi surplombante qui fait une courbe droite. (regardez la galerie des photos). Tournez ca et vous arrivez à un autre point de vue, cette fois regardant en bas à la Place de la Marie ou nord ouest vers les ponts qui enjambment la Vézère.(environ 45 minutes de votre départ).
Vous etes presque la!! En avant il y a un grand rocher qui est attache en place avec deux fils du fer épais. Allez sous ce rocher et traversez la terre en pente via un sentier vague qui tourne a droite vers une terrace avec une falaise voûte au-dessus, qui arc a la gauche. La cache est la, sous ces falaises magnifiques qui surplombent une chute de 50 – 70 metres. **DANGER NE VOUS RISQUEZ PAS ALLER PRES AUX BORDS DES FALAISES SANS BARRIERES. Celui ci est jusqu’a vous pouvez aller et une descente n’est pas conseillé, parce que si vous tombez vous vous retrouvez au milieu de la rue principale 70 metres au-dessous! Decouvrir la cache serait simple; il y a seulement 2 ou 3 piles de pierres. C’est une petite boite en plastique (10 x 6 x 3 cm) contenant une pièce de 1 euro (pour le premier à trouver) et un clef (pour longévité ?)
Avant trouver la cache vous avez besoin de revenir sur ses pas à la ‘T jonction’ des chemins. Pour un retour different, continuez tout droit et vous rencontrez la GR 36. Suivre le balisage rouge/blanc a gauche pour arrivez aux Hotel Cro Magnon, ou vous pouvez célébrer avec un verre bien mérité.
Autant que je sache, je suis le premier anglais qui a trouvé cet endroit et, bien que je suis une novice en ce jeu, je pense il n’y a pas beaucoup caches comme celle-ci!
