Patuxent Pirates: Sadly after 8 years this geocache has run its course! Though there were many Eagles here at one time it appears most or all have gone. Only the occasional Osprey graced our path as we went to pick this one up. Thanks to all of the brave geocachers who battled the biting flies and other obstacles to find this geocache over the years.

Geocache Description:

This is one of ten caches placed for the 2007 Cache Across Maryland. Each location was picked specifically to give you a taste of the state and show you just a part of its beauty. By combining all ten, you'll be able to see why Maryland is truly "America in Miniature". We hope you enjoy them!

This park set in a very beautiful and rural part of southern Maryland and holds an even more glorious sight besides the great view. This park is the home to at least three Bald Eagles who nest here. The effort to restore the population of our national bird has come a long way. If you want to see them up close you will have to try walking softly and having a pair of binoculars. These giants don’t like visitors and can see you from a pretty good distance. The geocache is hidden in typical fashion just a short distance from an established trail. Please make sure to hide this geocache well since it is close to a trail. Enjoy the visit and please post some pictures of our friends if you manage to take a few. The terrain has been bumped up just a bit due to a few slopes in the trail.
