The "Glass Tiger" is a Hungarian cult movie. It is about a a snack-bar (you know: hot-dogs and hamburgers) in a trailer somewhere between nowhere and anywhere. Many well-known sayings come from this movie, like these: "easy rider, brother, easy rider", "got shocked?", "let's go, daddy", "how many sparks?", "it tastes like tinned food", "how much would this be in a store?", "thanks, Sanyi!", "shall we sing?", "...it was even raining", "you get a battery with it", "it's price was twenty at that time" and finally the philosophical sentence: "this trailer is not at the right spot".
Movies come and go but very few become legendary. The Glass Tiger did it: an entertaining movie well appreciated by the public, simple story, good jokes one can really laugh at, well-drawn and consistent characters played by talented actors. The always unfortunate but otherwise normal Lali (Péter Rudolf), Gaben who wants to look like a high-living person (Gábor Revicky), the slow-witted Róka (Sándor Gáspár), the infantile Csoki (Imre Csuja), the ponderous Cingár (József Szarvas), the crazy and always sleepy Sanyi (Lajos Ottó Horváth), Oszibá, Joli, Betti, the prostitutes and the policemen, they all turn up around this roadside snack bar. They are wonderful and insignificant, comic and miserable at the same time. Still, they make it work, they don't understand this themselves till Lali tells it at the end: "me and my friends, no they aren't my friends, but... but they are my friends." Behind the well built jokes, there is something lyrical about dreams, friendship, seeking one's happiness, values accepted by all in characters understood by all. There is something genius and cathartic when they bury Lali's Impala he had so many difficulties to acquire or how they remain innocent concerning the robbery in a ridiculous way or how they laugh at each other when the policemen check their identity as they never heard each other's real name.
Well, if you missed it (an understandable but correctable error), you won't understand a word of the above, if you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about... If you know and like this movie, I'm sure you'll be happy to look-up the original location: the lake Garacsi between Tinnye and Piliscsaba. You'll see the well-known curve, the bus stop, the rise where the trailer was, the path at the lake where Sanyi runs, the hill where the whole story begins. I've hidden the cache here, that was an old idea of mine and I never thought I'll have the chance to hide it here at the end.
It is strange to see the place, it is much smaller in reality than on the screen (as usual). The greenery has also changed, but the main points are identifiable: trees, roads, pylon. There is new restaurant over there, we've tested it, the prices are moderate, the meals are good and there are special beers.
