The Basics:
The cache is not hidden at the posted coordinates.
The 5 star difficulty for this mystery is with no hints... the more
hints you use, the difficulty may go down.
The terrain is less than five stars, and for this cache, should be
considered part of the mystery.
The Background:
IndyMagicMan's version of the story:
Once upon a time there was a kind, generous, humble wizard that
bestowed upon the world a number of caches, many of which having
excellent cryptic hints. Then along came a dark, evil, gothy
vampire that accused the kind wizard of having Useless Cryptic
Hints. The wise wizard tried to help the poor vampire by explaining
to him that they were “thinking persons hints”. The dull vampire
thought about it as best he could and replied, “Well, they’re
Fairly Useless Cryptic Hints then”. The wizard pondered that and
decided that if the vampire found the hints useless perhaps he just
wasn't a thinking man.
poppagoth's version of the story:
As an intelligent creature, I have been continuously annoyed by the
Wizard's insistence that his hints are, in fact, useful. Having
discussed this topic with the many cachers I have personally met,
it is obvious that his hints are only useful after the cache is
actually found, and not a minute earlier. After pointing this out
through my many logs on his nearly impossible caches, he still
insisted that his hints are indeed useful. So, in an attempt to be
diplomatic, I said, "Okay, they are Almost Absolutely Useless"...
he found that unacceptable... "Ok" I said, "they are Mostly
Useless, and Cryptic"... still unacceptable. In the end, it came
down to one last attempt to be nice about it, and I said... “Well,
they’re Fairly Useless Cryptic Hints then”. This was finally
acceptable to him. After much consideration, I have finally
determined that the Wizard's use of a bit too much 'magic' has
warped his perception, and he is unable to tell a useful hint from
a useless one... it also seems to have some effect on his ability
to speak in the first person.
The Fallout:
For reasons that only make sense to the immortals, what started out
as defensive posturing turned into "Hey, I can make a more
useless hint than you". "Can not". "Can too". "Can not". "Can".
"Can't". "Can too, and my dad is bigger than your
dad"....
Needless to say, this bickering couldn't go on forever, (well, it
could, but where is the fun in that) and when one of them said
"Prove it", the gauntlet was thrown down, and this unholy
alliance was formed to determine who is the King of Useless
Cryptic Hints.
The Implementation:
Since both poppagoth's and IndyMagicMan's names are on this cache,
all aspects of this cache had to live up to each of their personal
standards. Working independent of each other, IndyMagicMan hid the
physical cache and poppagoth created the puzzle. poppagoth checked
on and approved of the cache hide, and finalized the puzzle for
IndyMagicMan to review. With the hide and the puzzle now approved
by both of them, and their personal boundaries intact, you now have
the challenge you see before you.
The Rules:
#1. poppagoth and IndyMagicMan will alternate posting Fairly
Useless Cryptic Hints, and these hints will be posted as Notes.
When a new hint is published it will be clearly marked as
such.
#2. All of the hints must in fact be useful, if only to the
thinking person. Since IndyMagicMan and poppagoth have knowledge of
the cache and puzzle, they will monitor each other for any
inaccurate hints posted.
#3. Hints will be posted no more than 72 hours from the last hint.
This rate will go until a total of 20 hints are posted.
#4. No edits will be made to this page, or logs deleted, without
agreement from both poppagoth and IndyMagicMan. Exception: IMM will
delete inappropriate logs immediately.
FTF:
First and foremost, the First To Find on this cache gets to
determine who is the King of the Useless Cryptic Hints!
Please consider carefully who posted the hints that helped in
solving the puzzle and finding the cache. Whoever posted the more
obvious, more helpful hints should be the loser. Plus, you'll get a
copy of 'Bad Dreams' signed by both poppagoth and IMM; the only one
of its kind. Oh, yeah, you'll also receive both an IndyMagicMan
geocoin, and a poppagoth geocoin (with certificate of
authenticity).
If all of that isn't confusing enough for you, then try your hand
at this little game...
