Spring flowers are in splendid bloom. Trees are turning greener and greener. Refreshing breezes are blowing. All such things may move many people, young girls in particular, to take a trip on the weekend during this beautiful season. Embark on the road to Yangsu-ri, Yangpyong County, Gyeonggi Province. You will be able to enjoy the scenery passing by your car window on the road, relish the magnificent beauty of the natural environment, and taste various local specialties on your trip to Yangsu-ri. "Yangsu" means "a convergence of two water bodies," or the Nam (south) Han River and the Buk (north) Han River. It is also called "Dumulmeori," a pure Korean rendition of "Yangsu."
Sujong Temple has attracted public attention as an ideal location where people can enjoy both the beautiful natural environment of Yangsu-ri and the sun rising through a sea of clouds. And "Cinevalley" has recently opened as a new themed tourist destination where visitors can enjoy everything related to the production of films. A growing number of families are taking a weekend road trip to this area. An ideal departure point for such a drive to Sujong Temple and Cinevalley would be the northern end of Paldang Bridge. There are two ways to reach this point: the first one is to cross Paldang Bridge after driving on the Olympic motorway until Misa-ri, Hanam, Gyeonggi Province; and the second one is to take a right turn and take the road to Yangpyong after going past the Walker Hill Hotel and crossing the Seoul city boundary, then going through Deokso to reach the northern end of Paldang Bridge.
The wide-open Lake Paldang creates a beautiful harmony with a vast river and an elegant mountainside. On rainy days, this area will make you feel as if you were standing on the beach of a sea. Take the newly opened motorway from the northern end of Paldang Bridge and take the exit to Mahyon Village near the entrance to New Yangsu Bridge. After about a 20-minute drive, you can see Sujong Temple, from which you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Yangsu-ri.
If you have enough time, park your car and hike up to Sujong Temple. The slope is a little steep, but this side of the mountain provides an ideal place for a magnificent view of the location where the two rivers converge far below. Now, you can understand why Yangsu-ri is called “a place with the most beautiful scenery in the country.” There also is a point somewhere on the middle of the slope from which professional and amateur photographers prefer to take pictures of the sunrise in the mist of a wet fog early in the morning.
After the breath-taking hike on the slope, you can reach a parking lot from which you can see Sujong Temple above. At the forked path at the entrance of the parking lot, take the rugged rocky stairway on your right side that leads to the temple. From the front yard of the temple, a wide-open view will unfold before your eyes. Two big ginkgo trees stand in a stately manner in the yard. According to a legend, the temple was named “Sujong” (water bell) because the sound of the temple bell resounded faintly over the Han River.
Beyond a small gate at the end of the yard, there is an observatory from which you can have a full view of Yangsu-ri. On a fine day, you can get a magnificent view of Lake Paldang, the Nam Han River, the Buk Han River, and a long stretch of mountains including Mt. Yumyong and Mt. Yongmun. When high day temperatures abruptly drop during the night, you may be lucky enough the following morning to enjoy a breath-taking view of the sun rising solemnly through the mist of a wet fog from the observatory of the temple.

By car
1) Gangnam (south of the Han River) area in Seoul-> Riverside Olympic Motorway->Jamsil->Paldang Bridge->take a right turn after crossing the bridge (in the direction of Yangsu-ri)
2) Gangbuk (north of the Han River) area in Seoul->Manguri Pass->Guri->Donong Three-Way Junction->Deokso->National Road No. 6 (in the direction of Yangpyong)->several tunnels->Yangsu Bridge->make a U turn after crossing the bridge (in the direction of Yangsu-ri)->Yongneup (Dragon Marsh, a lotus pond)->a crossroads in the town.
The right-side road, where the town's bus terminal is located, leads to Seojong-myon, where cafes are clustered, and the narrow left-side road leads to Dumulmeori. Drive about a kilometer straight ahead on the narrow road and take a left turn. Don't expect to find any milestone on the way. Turn left about 300 meters after passing below Yangsu Bridge.
The parking lot in Dumulmeori is so small that you will find it a little hard to find a place for your own car on weekends. It takes about 20 minutes from the northern end of Paldang Bridge to reach here.
By public transportation
(Take train or bus to Yangsu-ri before going to Dumulmeori.)
1) Take the train at Cheongnyangni Station in Seoul and get off at Yangsu Station.
2) Take seat bus No. 166 or an ordinary bus near Cheongnyangni Station.
3) Take an inter-city bus bound for Yangsu-ri at Sangbong Bus Terminal in Seoul.
