This four-part multicache is located in Frying Pan Farm Park, a Fairfax County Park located on West Ox Road in Herndon, VA. The park is open from dawn to dusk, and there is ample parking available. Please search for the cache only during daylight hours. You may want to check the park webpage to see if there are any special events when you plan to visit.
There are many activities to see and do here, including a model farm with live animals, a country store, a large indoor activity center which is used both for sports and for equestrian events, a new visitor center, and horse and walking trails. The park hosts numerous activities during the year, and you can see additional information on the Park Authority website at http:/www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/fpp.
We suggest you park near the Activity Center in the lot at N 38° 56.219, W 077° 24.522. Or you can park and begin at the Visitor Center, which has a separate park entrance. The walking distance between the four stages of this cache will be about 1 1/4 miles, mostly on level dirt and gravel paths. It can be somewhat muddy in rainy weather, and since many of the trails are also used by horses, you need to keep your eyes open! You will not need to cross any cultivated fields or climb over any fences. Please stay on the established paths as much as possible. Part of your route will be near a cross country trail with horse jumps, so be careful to look out for horses on the trails while you are in the park (always give the horse the right of way). You may want to carry a pen and paper to write down the coordinates for each stage as you find them.
To find the FIRST STAGE, follow the path through the model farm to N 38° 56.107, W 077° 24.336. This is a small container which will give you the coordinates to Stage Two. Please replace exactly where you found it
The SECOND STAGE is also small, and contains the coordinates to Stage Three.
The THIRD STAGE gives you the coordinates to the Final Stage.
The FINAL STAGE will reward you with a plastic box containing some goodies. Watch for sticker bushes/poison ivy, and muggles on the path nearby! Please add some camo on top when you replace the container so it won't be visible from the trail. You won’t have too long a walk back to your car from here!
