Geocache Description:

I monitor the Geocaching FRS Channel 2
This is a multi-stage cache that requires you determine a “year” at each stop and use it in a calculation to produce the coordinates of the next step eventually leading to the cache container. Coordinates for each stop are determined by adjusting minutes only. Degrees latitude and longitude remain constant (N43 and W079).

The container is an Ammo Box 10” x 7” x 3” covered by leaves and tree branches and contains various items. 2-plastic ponchos, whoopee cushion, shoe polish, bar of soap, photo album, address/phone# book, happy face pen, ceramic welcome plaque, little rubber football and air freshener. The walk to the cache is easy, less than 1 km, all on a gravel roadway and wide paths through a pretty wooded area. It is hidden about 2 metres off the path.

NO BUSHWACKING REQUIRED.

Because of the heavy tree cover I am not as confident as normal with the GPS readings. The encrypted hint therefore contains some very explicit tips and compass bearing/distances. I would suggest printing it out and take it with you but resisting the urge to read it until you have to.

By the way, I was inspired to devise this cache by Coupar-Angus and his “Five stops on the road to knowhere” cache (GCE34).

Time should be approximately 2 hours. Driving approx. 40 km’s from start to cache. Stop 1 is furthest north you will go.

Lets begin!

Stop 1 (Coordinates as shown)
Question: what year was the grist-mill opened?
(write it down. You’ll need it later)
Verify: sum of 4 digits totals 14.

Reverse the 4 digits and divide by 1000.
Add this to 47.240 for latitude minutes and to 34.263 for longitude minutes.
Proceed to the next stop at 43 xx.xxx 079 xx.xxx

Stop 2
Question: what is year of old building? (write it down)
Verify: sum of 4 digits totals 10.

Add 55 to the year. Reverse the digits of the answer and divide by 1000.
Add to 43.578 for latitude and 38.016 for longitude.
Proceed to the next stop at 43 xx.xxx 079 xx.xxx

Stop 3
Question: what year was Rev. O’Reilly born? (write it down)
Verify: sum of 4 digits totals 23.

Reverse the 4 digits and divide by 1000.
Add this to 40.436 for latitude and 38.565 for longitude.
Proceed to the next stop at 43 xx.xxx 079 xx.xxx

Stop 4
Question: what year was this fenced xxxxxYARD first opened? (write it down)
Verify: sum of digits totals 15.

Reverse the digits and divide by 1000.
Add this to 41.923 for latitude and 35.179 for longitude.
Proceed to stop 5 at 43 xx.xxx 079 xx.xxx

Stop 5 Park your car.

To calculate the cache coordinates, take the 4 “years” determined earlier (you wrote them down didn’t you?) and add them together.
Verify: sum of the 4 digit answer totals 17

Reverse digits and divide by 1000.
Add this to 42.520 and 36.358
Proceed to cache at 43 xx.xxx 079 xx.xxx
