An earthcache which will teach you more about the movement of drift sand.
De Peelrandbreuk heeft voor unieke natuurverschijnselen gezorgd die tegenwoordig nog zichtbaar zijn in het landschap. Een speciaal verschijnsel mogen we de Stippelberg noemen.
Opvallend bij deze breuk is de waterhuishouding. Een langs de breuk uitgesmeerde laag voorkomt dat water gemakkelijk van hoog naar laag kan stromen.
Daardoor is het op het hoge gedeelte, de horst, natter dan op het lage gedeelte, de slenk. De slenk bestaat bovendien uit fijner zand dan de horst, waardoor water wordt tegengehouden.
Het hoogteverschil kunt u merken als u op de waterstand in de sloten let.
De naam Stippelberg laat zich als volgt verklaren. Stuifzand kwam ter hoogte van de Peelrandbreuk tot stilstand. Het droge zand ontmoette hier het nattere zand dat op de Peelhorst lag. Het stuifzand bleef liggen.
Deze teksten zijn in het landschap te ontdekken. Op bovengenoemd coördinaat treft u inmiddels geen bord meer aan. Een nieuw bord is geplaatst op N 51° 31.917 - E005° 46.859. En ook dit bord is verdwenen! Om de cache te mogen loggen dient u een foto van uzelf met GPS en dit bord te maken.
Op 11 september 1999 vond er in Brabant langs de Peelrandbreuk een beving plaats. E-mail mij de sterkte van deze beving op de schaal van richter. Zoek dit antwoord op internet.
"De Peelrandbreuk" is a unique phenomenon of nature which is sometimes visable in the landscape. This special phenomenon is called "De Stippelberg".
Water management is prominent at this fracture-line. A more or less watertight soil along the fraction-line occurs so that water can easely flow from high to low.
Because of that the higher part, "de horst", is more wet than the lower part "de slenk". "De slenk" has more fine-grained sand than "de horst", and because of that hold more water.
The difference of waterlevel can be seen if you look at the waterlevel measurelines at the ditches.
"De Stippelberg" can be explained as follows. Drift sand stops when it reaches the fraction-line "Peelrandbreuk". When the more dry drift sand meets the much wetter sand situated at the "Peelhorst", the drift sand is kept in place.
This can be discoverd in the landscape here. On the above coordinates you will find only the remainings of the old signboard. A new signboard is now placed at N 51° 31.917 - E005° 46.859. To log this earthcache you will have to take a picture of yourself with the GPS in front of the signboard.
On 11 september 1999 an earthquake took place in "Brabant" along "De Peelrandbreuk". E-mail me the stength of this earthquake on the scale of Richter. This answer is to be found on the internet.
