Geocache Description:

A short multi, at an old and simple but nonetheless significant place, a short drive off the Hume Highway north of Seymour, is a good excuse for a brief rest.

It’s surprising what you find when you are looking for something else! The published coordinates will have you at a simple memorial to several very brave people, from a time when it was the done thing to serve for King and Country. Sometimes too, not the country we now automatically think of. People from the countryside are justifiably very proud and cogniscent of their contributions to causes past.

The memorial is not far from the highway, there is a reasonably obvious road to it and it is recommended that you use it. On the memorial you will find a small plaque. To find the cache, you will need to ascertain the following from the plaque –

How many wars are mentioned = A

The first-mentioned war started in 189B

How many men of the rank of Private are mentioned = C

How Many Victoria Cross winners are listed = D

The cache should be a reasonably easy find, a very short stroll away, at –

S36° 49.D(B/B)B    E145° 26.D(Ax2)C

It is a 1 litre systema container.

As you visit this place, you may like to spare a thought for the reason that it is here.

Maygar himself was the first Victorian to be awarded the Victoria Cross, during the Boer War. He was also among the last to leave Gallipolli, and died an acting Brigadier-General in the Middle East during World War 1. The others named in the memorial, along with one other, received their Victoria Crosses during the same extreme action at Lone Pine in Gallipoli. Lest we forget!

My thanks to maccamob for the prompt to add the last paragraph.
