Ali Baba discovers the secret magic words that give him access to
the cache of treasure hidden in a cave by the forty thieves. Ali
Baba’s rich brother Cassim, on discovering that Ali Baba
knows the location of the cache, and the secret words to unlock it,
calls Ali Baba and asks him the location and secret magic words.
This is where it all starts to go wrong. Cassim goes in search
of the treasure, but having found it realizes he has forgotten how
to get out of the cave. He is discovered there by the thieves and
killed.
Ali Baba recovers his dead brother’s body and gives it a
proper burial, but now the thieves, finding that the body is gone,
know there is another who knows the secret of the cache and go in
search of Ali Baba.
You can read a précis of the story at: wikipedia
And the whole story at: www.pitt.edu
Or another version at: www.bartleby.com
All’s well that ends well, and the thieves all die, the
boy gets the girl (or is that the girl gets the boy?) and they all
live happily ever after and live off the proceeds of the cache
forever.
BUT, Cassim’s fatal mistake was to ask another how to find
the cache, and Ali Baba’s mistake was to share the location
of the cache with he who had not found the true location for
themselves. So don’t tell a soul where this cache is or how
to get there.
In particular don’t divulge the final co-ordinates for
fear that someone will try the “direct” approach and
raise the terrain rating from 3.5 to 6.
You can find the location of the cache for yourself. You will
need to know the secret magic words (and it is important to have
the traditional anglicized version, not Arabic versions found in
some translations), and you will need the magic minutes calculator
I have provided for you.
Starting at the published co-ordinates, use the magic words
to calculate each sucessive waypoint, to keep you on trail. (Note:
you have all the route information here. There is nothing to find
on the trail except the cache itself.)
Your quest for the cache will take you through the magnificent
landscapes of a mystic valley, to the top of a windswept hill,
plunge deep into a gorge, across a raging torrent and through
manicured parklands. Trails range from well known and well made
paths to those rarely trodden. This expedition is best experienced
as a twilight hike. Aim to set out 2 to 3 hours before sunset and
you are likely to encounter the wildlife that abounds at that time,
from kangaroos, echidnas and koalas through lizards, insects and
butterflies to foxes and snakes.
Finding the cache itself is two eesy. Under the rocks in a
place where the sun never shines.
Make sure you are properly prepared. The hike is around 6½ Km
with a 300m elevation change. The last section is safe to do in the
dark, so make sure you have your torch with you. The terrain may
become slippery when wet, and may be impassable immediately after
very heavy rain.
The quest for the treasure cache should be suitable for mature,
sensible and well supervised kids, who are, invariably, fitter than
their parents.
This is a
LARGE cache, and it’s full of treasure. There are fine
fabrics, precious stones, exotic fragrances, jewelry, antiques and
money. Lots of money.
SO MUCH STUFF
IN HERE THERE IS NO NEED FOR SWAPS, JUST TAKE SOMETHING YOU
LIKE.
Please re-hide the cache carefully. This area is rarely
visited, but muggles do venture here from time to time.
