Geocache Description:

Once upon a time...

Yes, there used to be a cache at this location.  This is a replant of the cache that had a rather unfortunate demise on December 18, 2006. What happened on that day is only the third such incidence that I am aware of on the Central Coast.   In keeping with the theme of the original cache, I've chosen an appropriate documentary movie about the life of Robert Oppenheimer, the "father of the atom bomb", and in particular about his role in the Manhattan Project.

The link above will take you to an excellent summary of the movie.  For more information about Robert Oppenheimer and his contributions to the war effort and science in general, I recommend the on line encyclopedia, Wikipedia.

December 18, 2006:

I'd like you to meet "Boomer".  His official designation is the Remotec ANDROS F6A(mfg. by Northrop Grumman), and is the most versatile, heavy-duty robot on the market. Speed and agility unite to make it your first choice for a wide range of missions.  His key features are:

  • Color surveillance camera with light, zoom, pan/tilt
  • Surveillance camera with image stabilization - 216:1 total zoom
    (26x optical/12x digital)
  • Stationary arm camera - 40:1 total zoom (10x optical/4x digital)
  • 24-inch camera extender
  • Multiple-mission tool/sensor mounts with plug-and-play capabilities
  • Gripper with continuous rotate
  • Manipulator arm's seven degrees of freedom ensure optimum dexterity
  • Quick-release pneumatic wheels for rapid width-reduction, no tools required
  • Patented articulating tracks allow for traversing ditches, obstacles and the roughest terrain

What "Boomer" can do to a Geocache is not a pretty sight.

The Cache Container: The container is an uncamouflaged  rectangular container made of an opaque plastic material measuring approximately 2x3 inches and approximately 1/2 inch thick.  The  container is clearly marked as a Geocache.  Bring your own pen to sign the log.
