Geocache Description:

A scenic and exciting spot along my favourite river…

At this spot the Murrumbidgee is forced through a narrow gorge, the result is spectacular rapids. There are probably a number of places to start from to get to this cache, and I’m not sure which would be the best. I started at 35º31.812 S, 149º04.780 E. From here there is a nice 2km path along the river to the cache. Unfortunately – the niceness doesn’t last long. I wouldn’t recommend the trek to geokids. However, leave them supervised near the start point, a lovely spot for a picnic.
Once you get to the final location, you will notice it is rather rocky. From experience, caches in these places are hard to find. So here’s some hints:
1. It’s well under a two ton flat top rock with a curious 10cm gash in the top. (See pics).
2. You can only see it with your head near the ground.
3. You don’t need to move any rocks (not that you could) – just reach in.
4. It’s 6m south from the outcrop overlooking the rapids.
5. It’s 588m above sea level, approx 6m above river level.

The container is a mega scuba container attached to the gap between the boulders. Please make sure you put it well back in its place.
Take all normal bush walking precautions doing this cache – and be especially vigilant of snakes. I didn’t see any today, but as far as I’m concerned: Bush + Water + rocks = snakes.
