Geocache Description:

This Event Cache is part of the 2017 Spokane GeoTour launch weekend. If you are participating in prior years of Spokane GeoTour, or plan to participate this year, please be sure to visit SpokaneGeoTour.com for information, download and print your passport and get started today.

The Spokane GeoTour Sustainability of Spokane begins with a two hour (3pm - 5pm) social event at the Waste to Energy Plant! We have reserved a special meeting room for the entire time, so swing on in anytime between 3pm and 5pm for a fun meet and greet.

As an added bonus during this time, we have arranged two free 60 minute tours launching at 3pm and 4pm. Each tour will include an orientation, a question/answer period, and a walking tour of the plant. If you would like to also do a free tour, please let us know how many in your party, if you require handicap access, and if you plan to do the 3pm or 4pm tour.

Spokane's Waste to Energy Facility is where area waste is handled as an alternative to landfill. Since Spokane sits over a large area above the Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer, an alternative to dumping was necessary safeguard the water and environment. In turn trash is incinerated and turned into electricity. Come experience and learn how this facility has changed Spokane's waste treatment since 1991.

For anyone planning to participate in the facility tour there will be parts of the tour that are very loud. You will be provided with a hardhat and safety glasses. You must wear comfortable closed toe shoes.
