In 2013, Florida reached a significant milestone, the 500th anniversary of Juan Ponce de León's arrival on Florida's east coast. What makes this anniversary so unique is that Ponce de León's convoy of explorers was the first group of Europeans to document such a landing and give a name to Florida, La Florida. 2013 marks 500 years of history and diverse cultural heritage in Florida – a claim no other state in America can make.

Niceville wasn't always known as Niceville.  It was originally called Boggy, Florida.

Boggy Bayou was in Escambia County when Florida had only two counties, Escambia in the west and St. John in the east divided by the Apalachicola River. Walton County was established in 1824 from portions of Escambia and Jackson counties when Florida was an organized incorporated territory of the United States. Boggy Bayou was then located in Walton County. The first County Seat for Walton County was Alaqua, then Eucheeanna, then DeFuniak Springs.

The earliest account of Boggy Creek (today's Turkey Creek) is in "John Lee Williams" book, A View of West Florida written in 1827. "The Chactawhatchee bay is at least forty miles long, and from seven to fifteen wide. It receives the Chactawhatchee river through many mouths, at the east end; while on the north side there enters Cedar creek, the Alaqua river, Rock creek, Boggy creek and Twin creek".

Florida became a state on March 3, 1845.

The 1850 census for Walton County enumerated 267 households.

The 1900 Census for Boggy was taken June 1st with 26 enumerated households and a population of 130. Some of the men were at the sawmill and are listed as a separate household and counted twice. Some family names and occupations are: Armstrong, Allen, Davis, Edge, Ervin, Howard, Nathey, Sweeney, Stark, and Willingham as “Day Laborer”. Households of Allen, Brown, and Burlison are listed as “Sailor” and Spence was listed as “Sawyer”.

Name Boggy Changed to Niceville:  On November 5, 1910 Boggy, Florida became Niceville, Florida.

Okaloosa County was created by an act of the Florida Legislature in 1915:

"GENERAL LAWS OF FLORIDA, REGULAR SESSION, 1915.

Chapter 6937 - (No. 131).

AN ACT Providing for the Creation of Okaloosa County, in the State of Florida, and for Organization and Government thereof.

Section 1. That the County of Okaloosa is hereby created and established to exist as a county of the State of Florida. Said county shall comprise and include the following described territory: that part of Range 23 and all of Ranges 24 and 25 west of Tallahassee Meridian, embraced in and forming a part of the territory of the County of Santa Rosa, as heretofore existing, and all of Range 22 and that part of Range 23 West of Tallahassee Meridian, enbraced and forming a part of the territory of the County of Walton as heretofore existing.

Sec. 2. The said county of Okaloosa shall be part of the Third Congressional District;

Sec. 3. The town of Milligan shall be the temporary County Seat of Said county."

Niceville was incorporated as a City in 1940 after referendums of voters in 1938 and legislative action in 1939.

You are looking for a small ammo box containing a logbook and ample space for trade items and maybe even travel bugs.  The inside front cover of the logbook contains one of the questions needed to claim a challenge coin.

Please replace the cache as found so others can enjoy the fun too.
