Geocache Description:

Amphora Cache is one of the latest diving caches in Malta. This is the fourth cache of our scuba diving cache series within the Maltese islands.

The Amphoa at Cirkewwa offer an added area of interest to a dive along the left reef line. Amongst the walls and plateaus of the reef, the boulders and sea grass lying beneath are a number of amphora containers, within one you will find our latest of underwater caches in the Malta dive sites series.

An amphora is a type of container, descending from at least as early as the Neolithic Period. Amphorae were used in vast numbers for the transport and storage of various products, both liquid and dry, but mostly for wine. It is most often ceramic, but examples in metals and other materials have been found.

The cache lies in a depth of 20 meters, although some dive leaders will take PADI OWD divers to the cache, we recommend this cache to PADI AOWD or equivalent divers. The cache contains underwater logbook and a pen. No need to bring own.
