The series is hidden along the classic MacGillycuddy’s looped route called (Caher-) Coomloughra (route) Horseshoe. It is an extremely challenging loop that must not be underestimated, but the reward is sweet, i.e. having climbed 8(-9, depending how you count the Stumpa Bharr double-summit) major MacGillycuddy’s summits, three of them being the highest tops of Ireland: Carrauntoohil (1039m), Beenkeragh (1010m), and Caher (1001m).

The south arm of the horseshoe, ie Cahir, Cahir West top and the Big Rock down the Hill is probably the easiest part of the Reeks to climb and should not need much scrambling, however the climb should not be taken lightly. Make sure you take the appropriate gear and plenty of water. Make sure you know your route and that your GPS has plenty of battery power
Each cache is rated as if taken on its own. The cumulative total for the whole loop would definitely be 5/5.

When placing the three caches on the south arm of the horseshoe the walk took me 4hours 30 minutes, it was a beautiful warm sunny summer day. This time included looking for 3 archived caches and placing 4 more. It could well take longer in worse conditions.Flag Counter
