Geocache Description:

6pm until 9pm at the Kings’ Arms, Eccleshall, on Thursday Feb 26.  Large car park at the coordinates.

The topic for February is wherigo – how to play one, and a short show-and-tell on how to build one.

Stoke or Stafford – SOS – a monthly series of events, each with a theme and designed to allow cachers to help each other.  The events will be somewhere not too far from either Stoke or Stafford, or in between.

For February we are in Eccleshall, and hosted by Sharant (Sharon & Ant).

Caches in the area:

Come for the day if you like!

There’s one large series: Ticklebrick’s “Eee By Eck” a 'premium' series has 25+ caches over 6 miles West of town, with an optional shortcut between ‘New Style’ and ‘Bridge over troubled waters’ via our own multi ‘the Beast of Pershall’

Our own Eccleshall Ring is only 90 mins or so and is South of town, with some optional drive-by add-ons once you are finished.

There’s two multi-caches: Multi Media takes you out East, and the Eccleshall Tour takes you round in a loop around town, never far from one of the many pubs or cafés!

There will be a wherigo published before this event (not available yet) – just a short simple ‘taster’ wherigo by way of a demo.  Download it to your compatible device ahead of time.

Timings:

At 6pm Sharant will arrive, we’ll be eating as a family and glad for everyone to come along and join us for a chat and so on.

At 7:10 we’ll spend 20 mins going through what a wherigo is, how to load it, download the software, get it running.  Hopefully if you are having trouble we’ll get you started, and we can talk about some oddities and pitfalls.  No doubt some of you will now be eager to try it out straight away so weather-allowing there will be a foray into the night to collect the cache!

At 8:30pm Ant will ‘try’ to show off how to create a wherigo using his favourite tool, urwigo, and how to test one using the emulator in the WhereigoBuilder app.  This bit’s for coders… and depending on how much he’s had to drink, how much you’ve had, and how fond you are of recursive logic loops in flow diagrams, it may or may not make much sense.

The event will fin ish at 9 - but we can stay on!  The pub will shut much later…

Our Venue:

The Kings Arms is an old coaching Inn – one of many in Eccleshall dating from the time of the turnpike roads between Chester and London, Shrewsbury & York. They’ve got a menu with lots of range, and are willing to do sandwiches too - please phone through your order and then mention in your 'will attend' log below that you’ve booked food and a table so we can keep count. To be most helpful, tell them by Monday Feb 23. You can find the menu in the gallery - and there's plenty of other places to eat in town too, come find us by 7pm if you go 'off the reservation'.  The place had two ales on cask and the usual spread of other drinks available.

Address: 17 Stafford Road, Eccleshall, Staffordshire ST21 6BL

Phone:01785 850294 – say that you are with the Geocachers group to bag a table in our room, and mention that you phoned in your log, to help avoid double-counting.

Stoke or Stafford – SOS – a monthly series of events, each with a theme and designed to allow cachers to help each other.  The events will be somewhere not too far from either Stoke or Stafford, or in between, and generally mid-week on different evenings to help ensure you can make some if not all of them.  Need help?  Other may do too – suggest a topic, propose a venue, or offer to be a host (hosts don’t have to know stuff – we have plenty of know-it-alls round here!)
