Geocache Description:

The Haunting of Kitty Hollow

The killing began on a full moon, less than a fortnight before All Hallows Eve. Rumors of sightings of strange creatures on the edge of the woods spread through the community. Many gave them no credence. Why should they? Nothing like this had ever happened before.

The first victims had gone out for dinner at a local eatery in the shadow of the woodland of Kitty Hollow Park. As they left the restaurant, they heard the sound of howling coming from the trees to the north.

"I think somebody's dog must of got loose from the dog park. Let's see if we can find him", he said.

"Are you sure? The sun has already gone down", she asked.

Unconcerned, he led his family into the darkening timberland to call out to the dog. As they entered, the trees seemed to close in around them. It was as if the woods had suddenly come alive. They realized their error when they heard the deep guttural growls. Only the child managed to escape, though when asked about what happened, she could not give voice to words.

Over the next several nights, rescue parties were organized to search for survivors and kill the evil creatures that have taken over the park. They searched each night, following a seldom used path that led them deeper and deeper into the wildwood. Each night a party went out and each night few, if any, returned. Those that did survive told horrifying accounts of their ordeal. It was not just one creature in these woods. There seemed to be countless numbers of them.

Night Eight - Count Dracula's Revenge

Coming off of their first successful confrontation with the enemy in the week, the men from the previous night's search party again set out in search of any survivors or the killers. Knowledge that there was a vampire in these woods made them uneasy but at least they knew how to prepare.

Deeper into the darkening wildwood they traveled while a mist began to roll in. Passing statues that had been inexplicably placed among the trees, they noticed that the ground seemed to be crawling with large beetles. They heard the sounds of a wolf howling in the distance. The fog thickened. The men in the back of the group heard heavy footsteps coming from behind. A strong gust of wind blew through the trees and suddenly a large bat swooped into middle of the group of men, transformed into his human form and killed the leader where he stood.

He spoke to the rest of the men in his thick Transylvanian accent, "I am Dracula, Lord of Darkness, Master of the Vampires, Prince of the Undead, Ruler of the Damned! The time has come for you to account for your transgressions!"

Gun shots were fired. The men thought that wooden bullets would kill the vampire. They were mistaken.

"You waste your bullets, Gentlemen. You think you baffle me. You with your pale faces all in a row like sheep in a butcher's. So be it. Let the slaughter begin."

As your search begins, know that this area is inhabited by creatures both meek and savage. There will be slithery beings with neither arm nor leg, creatures of flight that would feast on your blood, and even plants that would attack you unexpectedly if you are not wary. This journey is not for the small of stature nor faint of heart for dangers await within these woods.

Travel between each location in the series is best done by bike in the grass along the greenway outside the South and West sides of the park but can be done by foot as well.
