Geocache Description:

The Haunting of Kitty Hollow

The killing began on a full moon, less than a fortnight before All Hallows Eve. Rumors of sightings of strange creatures on the edge of the woods spread through the community. Many gave them no credence. Why should they? Nothing like this had ever happened before.

The first victims had gone out for dinner at a local eatery in the shadow of the woodland of Kitty Hollow Park. As they left the restaurant, they heard the sound of howling coming from the trees to the north.

"I think somebody's dog must of got loose from the dog park. Let's see if we can find him", he said.

"Are you sure? The sun has already gone down", she asked.

Unconcerned, he led his family into the darkening timberland to call out to the dog. As they entered, the trees seemed to close in around them. It was as if the woods had suddenly come alive. They realized their error when they heard the deep guttural growls. Only the child managed to escape, though when asked about what happened, she could not give voice to words.

Over the next several nights, rescue parties were organized to search for survivors and kill the evil creatures that have taken over the park. They searched each night, following a seldom used path that led them deeper and deeper into the wildwood. Each night a party went out and each night few, if any, returned. Those that did survive told horrifying accounts of their ordeal. It was not just one creature in these woods. There seemed to be countless numbers of them.

Night Nine, Part 1 - The Gill-Man of Oyster Creek

With no knowledge of what had transpired on the previous night, one last band of intrepid would-be rescuers organizes for yet another hunt while others nearby snicker at them behind their backs.

The group passes what looks like the scene of a great battle; blood and downed trees everywhere. Undeterred, the group pushes further North than any previous group. When the tracker notices a large number of footprints that seem to wander aimlessly yet in the general direction of Oyster Creek, the group begins to search the East bank of the creek for signs of survivors.

One man spotted something move at the edge of the water. He goes down the bank to investigate and spies something deeper down in water. He places a hand on a tree and leans over the water to get a closer look. Suddenly the Gill-Man of Oyster Creek leaps from the water and drags the man under.

Nobody heard the man's cries for help before he was pulled beneath the surface of the water. They had been distracted by something else. The men had followed the signs of the footprints they had been tracking further to the North and back into the woods of Kitty Hollow. They heard the sounds of a large group of people walking ahead! Had they found the missing survivors? Could they really be alive??

As your search begins, know that this area is inhabited by creatures both meek and savage. There will be slithery beings with neither arm nor leg, creatures of flight that would feast on your blood, and even plants that would attack you unexpectedly if you are not wary. This journey is not for the small of stature nor faint of heart for dangers await within these woods.

Travel between each location in the series is best done by bike in the grass along the greenway outside the South and West sides of the park but can be done by foot as well.
