Saturday, October 5th at 9:45AM in Girdwood!

End summer in SouthCentral with a fun-filled weekend cleaning and camping trip starting in Girdwood and running down to the Russian River! This is the second running of a Hobo CITO series that was devised, developed, and planned in the GeocacheAlaska! forums last winter. The spring session was a great success, so we're going to end up the season by squeezing in one more frenzy of cleaning in between the tourist season and the rapidly approaching snow season. Let's get rid of some of that junk before it gets covered up for the winter!

The starting HOBO CITO site will be at the 2-mile stretch of the Seward Highway just west of Girdwood that belongs to GeocacheAlaska! under the Adopt-A-Highway program. Meet at the highway pullout at 9:45am to sign in, register for door prizes, and get a safety briefing. We will spend about an hour picking up any and all trash along the highway, meeting again at about 11am to consolidate the trash for a photo-op and then draw for door prizes (must be present to win).

This CITO site requires that we have a tail-gate safety meeting prior to starting and that everyone wear a safety-vest while working along the roadway. Per DOT rules, no children under 11 years old or dogs are allowed to participate in the cleanup.

Following the Girdwood CITO, we will head down the highway to Turnagain Pass, meeting at 1pm at the top of the Pass. From there we will break into at least 2 teams and perform a "leap frog" cleaning from the top of the Pass all the way to Tern Lake with each team being assigned specific highway pullouts or trail head locations. On Saturday evening, the group will meet up in the Russian River Campground to pitch our tents and gather around the campfire to tell scary caching stories. On Sunday morning, we'll have a community breakfast event and then dig in to clean up the Russian River Campground. An informal meeting for a late lunch/early dinner in Cooper Landing will follow.

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend this CITO event, even if you are not going to travel with the crew to clean up all 3 CITO sites or participate in the Saturday night camping. Many hands make light work. We look forward to seeing you there!
