Geocache Description:

On the hunt for Morgan. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of General John Hunt Morgan’s raid through Indiana and Ohio, the state of Ohio has put out 56 interpretive signs on his 557 mile trail through the state. You can follow his ride with road signs along the way. That, and the geocaches I have hidden along 40 miles he rode through Hamilton County.

The cache numbers go in order from 0-10.5 – generally west to east. The integer (whole number, 1,2,3…) caches are multicaches. At each one of these the listed coordinates bring you to a commemorative sign. The text on the signs that give you the numbers to match the variables for the final cache coordinates. At each descriptive sign be sure to copy down some variables that will lead you to bonus (mystery) caches (#4.5 and #10.5) as well. I used different letters so you won’t get mixed up between the multicache variables and bonus cache variables. The bonus cache variables are always to do with the mileage to the next sign. For bonus cache #4.5 your gather the clues from signs 1-4, for bonus cache #10.5 the clues come from signs 5-10.

It is best to find the series in increasing number order as the finals for each multicaches is further along Morgan’s trail (which goes generally west to east). There are some traditional caches along the way as well they will be decimals between the multis (ie 1.5 is found on the way from 1 to 2). I hope others hide some more caches (and use the naming convention) along the way. I hope others pick up the idea and extend the trail throughout eastern Ohio.

The caches associated with the trail are stored in this bookmark – ready for easy PQ.

This cache is actually just over the border in Indiana. Indiana also has a set of descriptive signs. In the past there used to be some caches located by them. The coordinates of the cache listing bring you to some signs about the raid.

From this sign you can get the following clues:

July A Morgan outflanks 4F0 Unions soldiers at Corydon

July 10 4,C00 Union Cavalry led by Gen Hobson pursue Morgan.

July 12 Raiders leave Versailles at 4 p.m. They camp at St. Paul where D miles north X,Y00 Union soldiers sleep.

Note bonus cache variables X and Y (used for bonus cache #4.5 final)

There is a second sign at : N39 14.919 W84 49.289

Clues: The advance unit of the union cavalry reached this point B hours later, but were too exhausted to pursue further.

Next sign: Morgan’s Great Raid K days of terror (E=K/2)

The final cache and log are located at: Final at N39 14.ABC W84 49.DEF
