Cache In Trash Out is an ongoing environmental initiative supported by the worldwide geocaching community. Since 2002, geocachers around the world have been dedicated to improving parks and other cache-friendly places. Through these volunteer efforts, we help preserve the natural beauty of our outdoor resources!
Cannock Chase is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and much of the area is also a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. Along with its beautiful landscape, the Chase has important and unusual wildlife, including the Cannock Chase berry, Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary butterfly, a herd of wild Fallow Deer. and uncommon birds such as the Nightjar and Woodlark. Over 1.5 million people visit the Chase every year to walk, cycle, picnic and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Unfortunately many of the visitors don't take away with them what they bring, and so we (Sharon and Ant) thought it'd be nice to help out. We have arranged with the visitor's Centre to hold a CITO on the morning of May the 4th, starting at 9am, to do some litter picking and other small jobs to help them out before it gets too busy on a Bank Holiday Weekend. Please do come aong, and maybe bank a few caches at the same time:
- A dozen traditional caches
- Three or four multi (depending on whether you are collecting 'Alchemy' caches)
- A couple of unusual 'Unknown' caches, that may take some work beforehand
- Two Ye Old Survey Monument (YOSM) Virtual caches within Cannock Chase, YSM420 Brocton Field and YSM070 Regents Wood
So there's some added incentives to get up early on a Bank Holiday weekend and come along and 'give back' a bit for all this lovely - sunny - warm - dry weather that we'll be having!
We'll publish more details via logs and announcement as we get closer to the event day, so please log a 'will attend' or put this on your watch list to stay up to date.
We have a full day of events planned
Following this event nearby is our Mercian Spring Fayre (GC4784P). A fun filled event with lots of games, a bouncy castle and pony rides.
It's also World Wide Flash Mob day, why not also attend WWFM X Staffordshire (GC47AXJ) in the evening.
