Geocache Description:

CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES

The last part of the Trail for the Challenged

Two of my favorite things about geocaching are hiking and completing challenge caches. After doing some enjoyable hiking series by himilecyclist (Wasatch Workout, MMOG-10, Ghost Road, and EAGLE), pfeifferhorn (Trail of the Elk), and Lockjaw (You're Going Where?), it was time to place my own. This cache is the final of that series. Finding it will require some hiking and will enable youtoward some challenges.

Along the trail to the west from the posted coordinates you will find several caches. Each contains a riddle you must solve to get a digit in the final coordinates for this cache. The caches you are looking for are:

Many thanks to lyonden_ut for allowing his cache to become part of the Trail for the Challenged.

Each cache, except the micro, will have multiple copies of its riddle. Please feel free to take one per group. The micro's riddle is short enough to not cause writer's cramp if you want to jot it down. The copies for taking will be on regular paper. There will also be a copy on Rite-in-Rain paper to be left in the cache. Each cache copy is marked "Please leave in cache." Pay close attention to the letter(s) you are solving on each cache. There are 8 numbers from 6 caches. When you have solved all the riddles you will be able to find the cache by plugging them in here:

N 40 4A.BCD W111 4E.FGH

Latitude check sum is A+B+C+D=17

Longitude check sum is E+F+G+H=8

An earthcache was planned to be part of the trail. For assorted reasons it was never published. I'm short on earthcache ideas for the area. If someone thinks of one please do so. I'd love to see that last icon get out here.

To collect all the caches the hike will be about 3 miles one way on a rolling trail. Be prepared with water and snacks for that distance. The challenge in this cache name is about challenge caches not outdoor survival!

I had a lot of fun putting this trail together. I hope you have as much fun following it.

A little history and detail:

At the time this was published Busy Day challenges were just becoming a thing. A Busy Day challenge required getting so many icons in a day. Usually it was about 6 or 7. Now (2020), at Mega and Giga events, people will set it up to allow cachers to get as many as 15 icons in a day. The Sunday after Trail for the Challenge was published A Sunday Morning Hiking Series event was held here. With the virtual in the parking lot and the five icons along the trail, that gave  people seven icons. That evening a CITO was held along a canal that is always in need of cleaning. It also happened to be within walking distance of a webcam. While traveling from one event to another, many cachers sought out an earthcache. People ended that very busy day with 10 icons.

The original Busy Day challenges focused on icons (cache types). Now there are Busy Day challenges for size and D/T combinations. The Trail for the Challenged will give you all six sizes (micro, small, regular, large, other, virtual) and seven D/T combinations (1/1,2.5/3.5,2/2.5,3/3,1.5/2.5,2/2.5,3.5/4) for a total of 34 D/T stars.

Relevant challenges in Utah (please let me know if I missed any or new ones are published)
