Fozzie Bear, the beloved, ear wiggling comedian from The Muppet Show, almost became a disasterous failure for the show. We can’t imagine the show now, without Fozzie’s bad jokes and the catchphrase “Wocka, Wocka!”, but after the first season they almost dropped the character.

His constant string of bad jokes and failure to win over the audience (he was Statler and Waldorf's favorite to heckle) provoked more embarrassment than sympathy; however, they persisted by building up his perpetual optimism to offset the onstage failures making Fozzie lovable and endearing, especially to his best friend, Kermit the Frog.

Though it is often believed Fozzie's name is a play on Frank Oz but he was actually named after Faz Fazakas, the person who created the mechanism that allowed Fozzie to wiggle his ears.
