Geocache Description:

The Mega2012 Night Cache Event

When? Thursday 9th August, 9pm
Where? Cartmel Park (find the table near the event coords)
Hosted by? Jaz666, supported by the rest of the Mega2012 team.

400 years ago, one of the Pendle Witches escaped from Lancaster Castle before the hangings took place, and was last seen walking across Morecambe Bay (at high tide) towards Humphrey Head.
She was never seen again, and was presumed drowned, and therefore cannot have been a witch afterall (as all witches float don't they?). Embarrassed by the incident, this 13th Witch was erased from the history books by the authorities.

Recently signs of witchcraft have been discovered around an abandoned Farm House in Cartmel Park (which was part of Lancashire until the 1970's).

Your task, should you be brave enough to accept it, is to investigate various areas of Cartmel Park in search for the 13th Witch. It is said if you learn her name, it unlocks untold riches.

To find the Witch, you need to form a team and set off into the gloom. Along the way you will need to:

  • Find the Magic Wand and have it reveal it's secrets.
  • Peer into the netherworld to find your way.
  • Listen to the Ether for hidden whispers.

Should you find the Witch, and learn her name, return to base to solve the Witch's Cryptex, which should yield the key to the riches.

The event will take part in the fields and woodland surrounding the Mega Camping Event. The exact length of the walk won't be finalised until just before the event, but we expect it to be under 2 miles. The ground is mainly level, but there is one section with medium gradients.
Stay tuned for announcements, as each team may need to bring a few items to assist in the hunt for the witch.

Whilst our story of the 13th Pendle Witch is fiction, the trials and executions of men and women from Lancashire and Yorkshire were not fiction, and the legacy of the events still hang over the ancestors who live in Pendle today, exactly 400 years later.
Safety Notice: Whilst we have listed the event at the abandoned farmhouse, please do not enter it (it should be cordoned off). We shall be at the obvious table just outside the cordon.

Driving Directions

Please do not aim for the event coords on your Car Sat Nav, as this may take you on the narrow village roads. Use postcode LA11 7SE which will take you to the vehicle entrance.
The event will be signposted by Yellow AA Road Signs.
