The Skyscraper's the Limit! (City of London) Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Simply Paul: It's been a while and since everyone who attended this single-table event - a small but happy band - has logged their attendedness, and all the travel items have been booked, out it's time to archive this fun wee meet.

The official status of my record attempt hangs in the balance; it all hinges on the true height of the floor of so-called Floor 42 above lower ground level (the tower's built on a slope) but I'll add a note if I get it recognised by Guinness, so please add this event to your watch list if you're interested. I raised over £240 with cachers' help - see my profile and its link for more info.

Sincere thanks again for coming along and making this a fun one. More adventures soon!

Geocache Description:

A caching event with a twist; I may not survive to attend it!

SP's post-vertical-mile-tower-climbing-record-breaking-attempt meet.

------------------------

When: Thursday March the 1st 2012, from 6pm.

Where: The Crosse Keys, 9 Gracechurch Street, City of London. EC3V 0DR. This JD Wetherspoon pub is kid-friendly, wheelchair accessible and has Wifi. A plaque on the front of the building, which is close to Tower 42, recalls that a famous coaching inn - called the Crosse Keys - stood near the site.

What: A traditional pub geo-gathering to talk caching talk, swap swappy travel swaps, eat eaty eats and drink drinky drinks.

Who: Cachers from far and wide. Who like pubs.

Why: Because I'm in town to run up the 920 steps, 590ft/180m and 42 floors of the near-by Tower 42 (formerly Europe's tallest building). Not once. Not twice, But NINE times in succession while attempting to set a Vertical Mile tower climbing record. A very grand total of 378 floors, 8,280 steps and 5,310ft/1,619m up. Up. UP. UP! I *may* be ok to cache afterwards to walk off the pain and either way, I WILL be needing a bit of a sit-down after it! Please take a look at my profile for more details.

How: Follow your GPS or A-Z to a pub at the above co-ords and address. The nearest tube stations are Bank, Monument, Cannon Street or Liverpool Street is also close by.

In the Past: I had a caching event in a pub close by after my previous 'Vertical Rush' run up Tower 42, in March 2011: GC2NKX9 - Recovery Meet in Tower42's Shadow - City of London and here's a video of my adventure, plus I had a cache meet at the top, back in April 2010: GC24C31 - London's Vertical Limit Extreme Event: Tower 42
