Geocache Description:

A Paddle Event on the Wood River.

This is a three-stage event, starting at the Deer Check Station on RT 165 in Arcadia WMA (posted coordinates). Attendance at any stage let's you claim the "Attended" log. You DO NOT have to join in on the paddle portion in order to claim the "Attended" log.

Stage 1: Breakfast at the Check Station, 8am-9am.
I'll bring the coffee, you bring your own breakfast (whose bringing the Bismarks?). We'll meet & mingle and get ready for the paddle down the Wood River.

Stage 2: Paddle down the Wood River, 9am-?
We'll put in at the Check Station, and paddle down the Wood River. We'll take our time, and stop to grab any caches along the way. See the bookmark list at right for the caches on the way. There may be more hidden in time for the event.

Stage 3: Bring your own Picnic Lunch: ?
After taking out, we'll drive back to the Check Station and enjoy a picnic lunch. There is a brand new shelter and picnic tables at the Station, making this a perfect sport for a lunch. You can even grab "Pier Pressure" while there.

I have been told that this stretch of Wood River is a nice paddle, and we should not have too many issues with blow downs or jams. There is one portage around a small dam at T3. We will provide details on the morning of the event.

There are two potential Take Outs (T1 & T2). Which one we use will depend on the weather - if it is very windy, we will take out at T2, otherwise we'll go all the way to T1. The call will be made that morning. Total paddle distance is approximately 6 miles. All paddlers are responsible for their own equipment, including a PFD!

Anyone who is paddling will drop their vessel off at the Check Station, and then drive their car down to the designated Take Out. We'll be sure some one stays behind to watch the boats. We will shuttle the drivers back to the put in and the event. If you plan on paddling, please state so in your "Will Attend" log, so we can make sure we have sufficient shuttle space. The shuttles will leave the Take Out parking at 8:30am sharp!

Additional details will be provided as we get closer, and plans may change, so please "Watch Listing" to stay on top of things. The rain date will be June 5th.
