Geocache Description:

An old school cache that is easy to find, but may be hard to get to.

You will get wet on this one.

Once you get near ground zero please assess the location and difficult nature of the cache, and your abilities to retrieve it. Yes, it is where you think it is. Please do not take any unnecessary risks for a Smiley. There may be more than one way to approach the cache area, so take some time to think it through. The cache is test tube sized, so please bring your own pen or pencil. Since the log is so small, please just sign your name, and give a more detailed account of your hunt here online.

From the Geocaching.com Terrain Rating System:

"Experienced outdoor enthusiasts only. (Terrain is probably off-trail. Will have one or more of the following: very heavy overgrowth, very steep elevation (requiring use of hands), or more than a 10 mile hike. May require an overnight stay.)"

The cache will remain in place over the winter, but it is strongly recommended that this cache not be attempted in cold or freezing weather.

Although the cache itself is not kid friendly, the kids can certainly enjoy the general location while you grab the cache.

Maps are available at the DEM Website. You should let someone know where you are headed, and bring a cell phone. A caching buddy is also a good idea. Please plan accordingly, and wear appropriate clothing and shoes, and bring enough water and food for the walk. An emergency card such a this one is also a good idea.

Fluorescent Orange Requirements for users of State Management Areas can be found in the Park & Management Area Rules & Regulations (Section 16.7). It is the user's responsibility to know the rules before hiking in the Wildlife Management Areas.

October 2007 - Note: The level of difficulty and terrain will both rapidly approach "5" as the weather gets colder, and things start to ice up. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful if you decide to retrieve this cache, and make sure that you are adequately outfitted and prepared for the short jaunt to the cache site. The Smiley is not worth hypothermia, frostbite, etc. Come back when it's warmer if you have any doubt on your ability to grab the cache.
