While NMFireHorse, Bronco and I were parked along SR 42 and searching for a nearby cache --bighornram's GC1KTV7, Homestead -- the owner of that property stopped to see if we needed help. Leroy Humphries brought Chelby and Sam Brown along, and the kids were invaluable in retrieving the Homestead cache. Our thanks go out to them for helping with the maintenance on the now three caches located on the ranch.
We got to discussing geocaching and GPS and mapping with Leroy, and as it turns out, the geometric center of NM is on the Seven Up Seven Down Ranch, a 606 meter walk at 251°T from the gate where you will find this cache.
As of 8 August 2010, that location is represented by GC2D4AD, Humphries' Center of NM Travel Bug Resort, which you are welcome to visit, and where you can read all about the geometrical Center of New Mexico.
Dr. Humphries' family homesteaded the 7up7down ranch in 1910. He has joined geocaching as 7u7dranch, and you might well want to check out his profile, as without him this cache would not exist.
