Geocache Description:

This cache leads to the UK's Oldest Puzzle Cache, GC18BC!

About 10 miles north of the M25, near Berkhampstead in Ashridge Park, this stash's area is probably best reached by car or bike. It's in easy terrain, although it can get extremely muddy, so wear appropriate footgear.

Now the 8th oldest in Europe, 3rd oldest cache in the UK & the 2nd oldest in England!

It may take some trekking through mud and goop (again lots of horseback riders here), but we think it's worth it. Hopefully you'll see some nice trees but flat terrain - The park is well used by walkers and is mature open woodland. The signal is reasonable at most times.

There are some beautiful trees in this area - Beech and oak - The cache is stashed under the stump of one of these felled trees (you should probably decrypt the message below). This is the second [now third] cache here as the first vanished! It's [was] now a small cup shaped container with a blue lid. Here is the original description for nostalgia's sake! - 'You will have to search for the container which is a small red screw together plastic tube . It is sealed at the joint in the middle with Duct tape so try to re use it when you visit.' Here is a pic of me and Pid finding the original in '02...

The container is under the prominent tree roots, but hidden from casual passers by.  Try not to draw attention to yourselves when visiting the site as I said the park is very popular with walkers, especially at the weekend.

A little more nostalgia - 'Inside, we put some items for both kids and adults. Don't forget to sign the log book which is a bit primitive at the moment!'

May 2017 update:
This cache has a special claim to fame: It has the earliest log on a live cache in the UK. onyx found this one on Saturday February 3rd 2001; their first find. See GC5XXWX - Britain's Oldest Log for further stats 'n' facts. It's close by too...
