Le pont de Jambes, autrefois appelé pont de Meuse, enjambe les deux rives de la Meuse au pied de la citadelle, reliant ainsi Namur à la plaine alluviale de Jambes. L’urbanisation de Jambes a en effet été déterminée par ce pont de sept arches de pierre, monument emblématique déjà mentionné au XIIe siècle et longtemps seul lien entre les deux rives. Le pont et sa tour Beauregard, aujourd’hui disparue, ont ainsi constitué le passage obligé et le poste-frontière entre le comté de Namur et la principauté de Liège. C’est dire le caractère stratégique de l’endroit. Le pont sous sa forme actuelle a été édifié du XVIe au XVIIIe siècle et restauré de 1961 à 1965, en l’adaptant, grâce à son arche centrale unique, au trafic fluvial moderne.

De brug van Jambes, vroeger de brug van de Maas genoemd, kruist beide oevers van de Maas aan de voet van de citadel en verbindt Namen met de alluviale vlakte van Jambes. De verstedelijking van Jambes werd inderdaad bepaald door deze brug van zeven stenen bogen, een emblematisch monument dat al in de 12de eeuw werd genoemd en lange tijd de enige verbinding tussen de twee oevers. De brug en de Beauregard-toren, die nu verdwenen is, vormden zo de noodzakelijke doorgang en grensovergang tussen het graafschap Namen en het prinsdom Luik. Dit toont het strategische karakter van de plaats aan. De brug in zijn huidige vorm werd gebouwd van de 16de tot de 18de eeuw en werd gerestaureerd van 1961 tot 1965, waarbij hij dankzij zijn unieke centrale boog werd aangepast aan het moderne rivierverkeer.

The bridge of Jambes, formerly called the bridge of Meuse, crosses both banks of the Meuse at the foot of the citadel, thus connecting Namur to the alluvial plain of Jambes. The urbanization of Jambes was indeed determined by this bridge of seven stone arches, an emblematic monument already mentioned in the 12th century and for a long time the only link between the two shores. The bridge and its Beauregard tower, which has now disappeared, thus constituted the necessary passage and border crossing between the county of Namur and the principality of Liège. This shows the strategic nature of the place. The bridge in its present form was built from the 16th to the 18th centuries and restored from 1961 to 1965, adapting it, thanks to its unique central arch, to modern river traffic.
