Originally built in 1888 by Leonard Burlington Smith, and named after Queen Emma (1890–1898), the Queen Emma Bridge connects the Punda and Otrobanda districts of the capital city, Willemstad.
It is a swinging pontoon bridge for pedestrians to cross Sint Anna Bay. It is hinged and opens regularly to enable the passage of ocean going vessels.
The plaque reads (English):
"This plaque is dedicated to the memory of Leonard Burlington Smith 1839 - 1898 builder of the first Queen Emma Bridge."
