"L'origine de l'église se remonte à 1667, date à laquelle Louis XIV décréta la construction d'une chapelle Saint-Louis. En 1957, l'église fut l'objet d'une spectaculaire restauration dirigée par l'architecte Joseph André. Le sens d'orientation de l'édifice fut changé. Situé un peu à l'écart du reste de l'église, Un campanile, haut de 32 mètres, est érigé en bordure de la rue Charnoy afin d’y héberger les cloches.

Les cloches du campanile sont au nombre de 3. Elles sont échappées aux destructions massives des espagnols, des hollandais et des français, ainsi qu'avec chance aux enlèvements des Allemands.

Des passionnés d'histoire ont relevé les infos concernant ces cloches et leur fondeur:

- 1 Chevresson - De Forest. 1760. Elle a une très bonne sonorité. La durée de vie du son est exceptionnellement long et harmonieux.
- 1 Drouot. 1836. La sonorité est relativement métallique et brève.
- 1 Andreas Lodewijk Vanden Gheyn. 1790."
