[FR] La graine du banian est déposée dans la fourche d’un arbre par un oiseau. Cette graine produira plusieurs longues racines le long de l’arbre où elle a été déposée. En prenant contact avec le sol, ces racines deviennent très solides. Elles se multiplient, s’entrelacent et se soudent entre elles pour former un filet très serré qui étrangle alors l’arbre jusqu’à le faire mourir en l’étouffant et en privant l’arbre victime de la lumière dont il a besoin. Lorsque le tronc de l’arbre support se décompose, le banian a acquis suffisamment de solidité pour se tenir seul.
Lors de sa fructification, le banian attire des nuées d’oiseaux comme les perruches, les loriquets, les pigeons…
Un superbe banian peut être admiré à Prony (Commune du Mont Dore - Sud). Ce dernier enveloppe tout un pan de mur d’un bâtiment de la Pénitentiaire. Il est également possible d’en voir au Parc Zoologique et Forestier Michel Corbasson.
[EN] The banyan seed is deposited in the fork of a tree by a bird. This seed will produce several long roots along the tree where it has been deposited. By contacting the soil, these roots become very strong. They multiply, intertwine and weld together to form a tight net that then strangles the tree to death by suffocating and depriving the victim tree of the light it needs. When the trunk of the support tree decomposes, the banyan has acquired enough strength to stand alone.
During its fruiting, the banyan tree attracts swarms of birds such as parrots, lorikeets, pigeons ...
A superb banyan tree can be admired in Prony (Municipality of Mont Dore - South). This last envelope a whole wall of a building of the Penitentiary. It is also possible to see Michel Corbasson Zoological and Forest Park.
