Le cirque de Gavarnie se situe dans le Sud-Ouest de la France, dans le département des Hautes-Pyrénées en région Occitanie, sur le versant septentrional de la ligne de crêtes marquant la frontière avec l'Espagne.
De nombreux sommets entourent le cirque (d'est en ouest) : le Petit Astazou, le pic du Marboré, le pic Brulle, le pic de la Cascade, l'Épaule du Marboré, la Tour du Marboré et le Casque du Marboré. Le pic du Marboré est le point culminant du cirque, avec 3 248 mètres d'altitude. La demi-cercle constitué par le cirque a une circonférence d'environ six kilomètres. Le fond du cirque, où est située l'Hôtellerie, se trouve aux alentours de 1 570 mètres. La hauteur des parois atteint donc près de 1 500 mètres, en trois étages successifs séparés par des banquettes moins inclinées.
Au milieu du cirque, légèrement sur son versant oriental, se tient la cascade de Gavarnie, haute de 422 mètres, à la source du gave de Gavarnie donnant le gave de Pau.
Sous la ligne de crêtes, dans la partie haute du cirque, se trouvent plusieurs glaciers reliques : glacier de la Brèche, glacier du Casque, glacier de l'Épaule, glacier de la Cascade, glacier Ouest du Marboré.

The cirque of Gavarnie is located in the southwest of France, in the department of Hautes-Pyrenees Occitanie region, on the northern slope of the line of ridges marking the border with Spain.
Numerous summits surround the cirque (from east to west): the Petit Astazou, the peak of Marboré, the peak Brulle, the peak of the Cascade, the Shoulder of Marboré, the Tower of Marboré and the Helmet of Marboré. The peak of Marboré is the highest point of the cirque, with 3,248 meters of altitude. The semicircle formed by the cirque has a circumference of about six kilometers. The bottom of the cirque, where the hotel is located, is around 1,570 meters. The height of the walls thus reaches nearly 1,500 meters, in three successive stages separated by less inclined benches.
In the middle of the cirque, slightly on its eastern slope, stands the Gavarnie waterfall, 422 meters high, at the source of the Gavarnie Gave giving the Gave of Pau.
Below the ridgeline, in the upper part of the cirque, are several relict glaciers: the Brèche glacier, the Casque glacier, the Épaule glacier, the Cascade glacier, the West Marboré glacier.
